Uhm, pretty much every clothing store?

Outdoors-y stuff you can also find at Transa, for example.

Best thing is to wait until the sales where you will pick up many bargains. However popular shops are:

Migros SportX (has a sports shop at Brunaupark and an Outdoor store at Sihl City) http://www.sportxx.ch/de?gclid=EAIaI...SAAEgJiMfD_BwE and http://www.sportxx.ch/de/cp.outdoor

Athleticum (next to Selnau train station, has a sale now I think) https://www.athleticum.ch/de/?gclid=...SAAEgKuZPD_BwE

Ochsner sport (has a big store at Sihl City, only worth it in sales) https://www.ochsnersport.ch/de/shop/

Umm, she wrote 'affordable'... Transa is one of the most expensive outdoor stores in Zurich.

And no, 'pretty much every clothing store' does not sell winter jackets.

Yes honey calm down with your groaning and bitching and eyerolling about really very irrelevant things, I know you don't like me and feel the need to attack me for zero reason pretty much every day.

Affordable is relative. Athleticum and Sportxx are roughly in the same price range as Transa. And yes, pretty much all (major) clothing stores sell some sort of winter jackets of sorts around this time a year.

Go to H&M, C&A, Orsay, Manor, buy online at Zalando, Jelmoli, Bonprix, Ackermann, Quelle. They all sell all of what OP wants, in different qualities and price ranges.

Affordable is relative. Athleticum and Sportxx are roughly in the same price range as Transa, also because they sell similar brands. And yes, pretty much all (major) clothing stores sell some sort of winter jackets of sorts around this time a year.

Answering "Umm, pretty much all shops" is just not true or helpful, as many "mainstream" fashion stores such as H&M and Zara do not sell heavy-duty winter clothing with technical fabrics that can comfortably withstand -10c temperatures and below and/or heavy moisture from snow exposure, which I know is what I would be buying for my children to protect them from a potentially harsh Swiss winter where they will be out in the elements and rolling in snow as much as they can.

As for prices, I know Transa is higher priced because I have looked through the store on a regular basis and compared it to others when I was looking for my last couple of jackets. You will find nowhere near the deals on 'mainstream' brands in Transa as you will at the Athleticum or Migros SportX. And no, they do not sell all the same brands, Migros also have some value brands that the others do not sell.

If you didn't post factually incorrect things you wouldn't get groaned or rolled at. I have zero personal interest in you (or 99.9999% of other members here), and find it highly amusing that you would even think that.

No, they aren't - I look in all three fairly regularly, and I can state with some confidence that Transa is significantly more expensive.

Transa undoubtably has better quality stuff, but it is not "affordable" in the meaning of anyone who is actually asking that question.

I would recommend SportXX or Ochsner, if you want proper outdoor stuff. Also, if by "affordable" you mean "cheap but OK", then keep an eye on Lidl and Aldi - particularly for the kids who will outgrow / trash it way before it wears out.

shops like Odlo and Salomon in the Landquart outlet sometimes have pretty good deals on outdoor clothes. You just need to be a bit lucky though.

Landquart is an easy drive/train ride from Zurich and is open on Sundays. Different stores, probably a decent deal somewhere.

Re: Winter/Outdoor jackets Shops

Athleticum have, in the past, opened a separate warehouse where they sell all their sale stuff at 50% off.

I haven't seen this recently but I've bought winter jackets for 30CHF and snowboard trousers for 37 CHF (reduced from 200 CHF).

Other places also do this pre-ski season (so in the next month or so) for ski and for more regular winter outdoor wear but it's difficult to find our when and where.

There is also the Transa Outlet on Josefstrasse - but just now it's probably only good value for summer stuff for obvious reasons.

Re: Winter/Outdoor jackets Shops

The Sport Outlet Shop has branches in Pratteln and St.Gallen. they mostly have good branded, but discontinued, kit at around half the manufacturers' original price.

What they don't have is cheap and cheerful, for which I'd recommend keeping an eye on weekly offers at Lidl and Aldi - when they do their winter stuff it's definitely going to save you a fortune compared with branded sports gear. Generally decent quality, but not really technical sports stuff, but sounds like that's not what you're looking for anyway.

I go here (to the one in Regensdorf - its near to the train station) almost every season and kit the kids out generally you can get quite good bargains.

The stuff is a couple of seasons old, but for kids they dont care much and its often branded clothing.

Its worth a look.

Agree. Although Transa's a great store for the serious out-doors needs, went there just a couple of months ago looking for gear for a potentially rainy / changeable Canada trip. On mentioning that about 600.- for a rain jacket was above my allocated budget, the assistant did state that Transa catered for the higher price ranges i.e. the serious stuff.

Found an affordable solution surprisingly enough in Och Sport (Bahnhofstrasse), having already visited Ochsner Sport, SportXX and all others I could think of. But I would also start here for a family.

Re: Winter/Outdoor jackets Shops

Maybe check geizhals.de for the north face products, sometimes you get the noth face point five jacket for 280-300 euros instead of 400 euros (regular price), same jacket will be 500 sfr here in switzerland.
When you add a denali fleece to the jacket, even -25 deg celsius isn't a problem.

Try Otto's outlets which you find in bigger otto's (not the ones in city centers). You can find good brand stuff at low/discounted prices but depends on what they have on stock at the moment of course since it's an outlet, vendors are pretty helpful too at least in the one I went to.
