With nationals from African countries comprising 4.58% of the immigrant population of Switzerland, and more than a quarter of those coming from Eritrea alone, it becomes a little rude to lump all Africans together when only a handful of African nations comprise the vast majority of immigrants from that continent.
If you said the same for Asians, you'd have a significant proportion of the country's IT sector on your case https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/society...land-/42412156 | | | | | Is an 8yr old (probably white so at best limited experience with faces of black people) likely able to distinguish between a black person from Southafrica, Ivory Coast, and one from Eritrea?

"Where are you from?" Open questions tend to be better received when meeting anyone for the first time, and it's a really simple thing that we can instill in children rather than go into the whole palaver of good manners, etc.

my Swiss born dark skinned child was asked "where are you from?". Yet another proof the Swiss are racist.
Actually, coming to think of it, we've already had that discussion here on the EF at least once.
If people want to take offence they will find something to take offence at.

No, this is not well received, what country do you come from, is just accepted.

'Lugano' was the answer. Swiss-German father, northern-Italian mother.
However, one of my wife's grandfathers was born in Brazil, but his Vicentine parents returned to Italy after a few months of living there.

My fella often gets asked where he's from in Greece?
Hillbrow, Johannesburg is the answer.
I always get asked where I'm from in Ireland. I've never been!

Explain why that would be a better question. Is there something wrong with being an asylum seeker/asylant?

How come my non-personal guessitmate is infuriating you whereas your OH's clear and personal presumptions (see your #280) aren't?
I'm not saying either is wrong, I'm just perplexed by the difference in the other's reaction. How come?
Sidenote:
It's natural to want to protect one's OH, I'm fine with leaving it at that if something to that end applies.

The question seems to be which part of Mohrenkopf is politically incorrect. Chocolat Ammann in the Bernese mountains figures, the "Kopf" (head) is the offensive part: available at Lidl CH. | This user would like to thank curley for this useful post: | |
