You make it sound like there is a secretive systematic and institutionalized racism to keep a leash on all immigrants.
Even though I must admit I don't like here, not for the reason your mentioned but on for the desolate social life. Other than that, I think anyone can make it here. To say he will be promoted in his home country, but not here isn't correct.
I came here 5 years ago from East Africa, not even having finished high school and barely knowing anything about programming and today I am working for at the EPFL Innovation Park as fullstack web developer. If I can make it this far, anyone can.

Until it is perceived that there are too many of them, whether or not it corresponds to the truth is Irrelevant, but at some point the welcome will turn into xenophobia and then sparks fly. Add a socialist government into the mix and you get what we are now seeing in the political landscape.
