So I've been living in Switzerland for just over a year and finally my friends from the UK have decided to visit. While they're here we're planning to go out for some drinks in Zurich.

Could you advise on some affordable clubs for tomorrow night? Ideally I'd like to get home having spent less than 100chf although my research thus far suggests it might be a tall order.

We usually frequent rock/indie clubs so anything in that same vein would be a bonus.

If you just stand around a water fountain, looking cool, I believe they're still running at this time of the year.

Uhm, I never spend 100.-, let alone more, for a night out at a club

20-35 entry, 3-5 beers = total cost 70-80 tops

Or

20-35 entry, 2-3 cocktails, 1-2 non-alcoholic beverages = total cost 100 tops.

Sans club and just at a bar, 4-5 beers or whatever = 35-50 depending on where you go

Granted, if you want to get pissed drunk, then going out to an actual club vs a bar will indeed set you back quite a bit.

My guess was 100chf for the whole group - depending on how many there are, even at 50 per head, it's hard to stay below 100.-

X-tra night club in Zurich is free on a wednesday. Music is new wave/goth/industrial. That can be fun if you like that type of music. Beers are 8 chuffs a pop the last time I was there.

Well usually we go to two or three different clubs. Particularly as we'll be exploring a new city, I'd like to think we wouldn't spend the whole evening in one club. We were planning on going to a couple of bars first though so maybe that'd suffice.

As we're out tonight the X-tra won't be free but maybe we'll give it a look in.

I'll update tomorrow in case anyone else has a similar query.

Hafenkneipe near HB, Kontiki in Niederdorf and Sansibar, Mars Bar, Kaiser Franz (specialty beers), Mata Hari, all near Langstrasse are bars where you could hear indie/alternative rock. Ole-ole bar & cactus more classic rock & metal. Gonzo & Helsinki clubs have indie/rock, depending on the night, entrance to Helsinki is often 10CHF or less...
