Edelweiss emergency landing Zurich Airport

Zurich Airport Edelweiss flight to Punta Cana
had to make an emergency landing after takeoff but first it had to gain some altitude and dump some fuel over the Santis and Lichtenstein
After which it landed safely and was surrounded by about 5 fire trucks from the airport.

Re: Edelweiss emergency landing Zurich Airport

at least it didn't do what the recent turkish flight had to do and circle around for hours burning fuel until it could land (that plane had no system to dump fuel).

Thats not an emergency landing.

And, personal opinion, what the AB pilot did wasnt dangerous at all, just a way to say goodbye.

Agree. Although he and his (co) pilot are grounded now pending the investigation.

Have been in a plane with emergency landings, not fun

And the tower appreciated it

plus: <<The pilots had the permission by the tower to do the go-around in this direction.>>

Re: Edelweiss emergency landing Zurich Airport

Just another day at the office for the Pilots... :-)

Incident: Edelweiss A333 at Zurich on Oct 18th 2017, gear problem after departure
By Simon Hradecky, created Wednesday, Oct 18th 2017 21:06Z, last updated Wednesday, Oct 18th 2017 21:06Z

A Edelweiss Airbus A330-300, registration HB-JHQ performing flight WK-34 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) with 257 passengers and 11 crew, was climbing out of Zurich's runway 16 when the crew stopped the climb at FL070 reporting problems with the landing gear. The aircraft climbed to FL160 but needed to return to Zurich for a safe overweight landing on runway 16 about 70 minutes after departure.

A replacement A330-300 registration HB-JHR is estimated to reach Punta Cana with a delay of 5 hours.

The airline reported the gear could not be retracted. Another A330 was dispatched to take the passengers to Punta Cana.

BTW: This flight did not Dump Fuel thats the reason for the overweight landing. Fuel dumping system is optional on the A330....

Re: Edelweiss emergency landing Zurich Airport

overweight landing because they have to dump fuel for 40 minutes in order to be underweight but they dumped just enough to be able to land safely... in this case I guess they took the environment and financials as a priority when they decided to dump just the minimal amount of fuel and land overweight on a malfunctioning landing gear...

They asked permission for this go-around in case of an aborted landing. There never was the intention to land so permission was granted on false information.

And I don't think that the passengers had so much fun...
