Buying electronic items in Basel

I need to buy a Beamer and a Blu Ray burner. Have tried Digitec (in Basel), but my experience with them is really bizzare. This is the fourth time, I will return an Item to them.

Last year, they sent me wrong set of RAM. But this can happen once in a while. So i took it in my stride and exchanged it.

Then I bought a Beamer. Turned out they had mentioned a 'Lens shift' in its tech details, that it did not have. So I had to return it.

Then it was a Blu ray burner, that didn't have the required softwares that they said it has.

Last week, I was stupid enough to go to their shop again. I thought I will confirm the details with their people at the counters, before placing an order. The sales guy told me that the Beamer I have selected does not have a USB plug n play, that I wanted, and suggested another one that was 200CHF costlier but has a USB that was supposed to work as a plug and play. So I changed my order to that one. No marks for guessing, the USB in this one is also merely for charging devises and NOT a plug and play.

I strongly recommend Digitec for there CONSISTENCY (with mis-information).

Meanwhile, can someone recommend me a shop on or off line in Basel, where I can buy a Beamer? I need a slightly higher end Full HD with around 4000 ANSI.

Thanks

Re: Buying electronic items in Basel

?? are you sure ?? both my beamers have USB and both will play from it, not come across any beamer that has a usb port that wouldn't play from it, sure it just didn't support your codec? what make / model is it?

Mediamarkt usually have the beamer out on display and are quite happy to let you play with them, one of the few shops that actually have them turned on and with a projection screen

Re: Buying electronic items in Basel

Thanks for the response Bigblue.
Yes, it does not show USB in the source list at all.
I first thought it could be a problem with a USB stick. So I tried four different USB sticks. But it just shows 2 HDMI, an S-video and a Pc connection to choose from.

Mediamarkt display is certainly nice. Unfortunately the beamers available were lacking in one thing or the other.

Can you share your beamer models? and do they have around 4000 lumens?
Thanks

Re: Buying electronic items in Basel

It is best to never rely on technical advise from people working in those big stores, they hardly ever know what they're talking about and their knowledge is often limited to the info on the price-tag. (Last time in Fust the sales guy counted the USB ports along when I asked how many HDMI ports a certain telly has for example...)

Best is to choose a model and see online if it can do what you want it to do.

I figured that out now.
The problem is that earlier, when i ordered from the website, their info was incorrect.

What software was that? My blu ray burners have worked straight from the box..

I've been using Digitec for over ten years and have never in all that time had issues such as you describe. But then, I know exactly what I'm ordering and usually check the manufacturer's spec from the manufacturer's website.
