you should see how they treat people who speak French or Italian (not to mention Spanish, Portuguese, Greek...) up here in the German speaking regions
Probably the same way that we treat German speakers here.

And sure, I'm racist. Sexist, too. I'm doing quite well out of the system, so why would I want to change it?

I was not sure what you said and i didn't want to jump to conclusions thats why I asked back. Your statement combined with your previous ones gave me the idea.
Ok it would have been better if I wrote "would be the first racist statement".

Like I said I hate to label things as racist but seeing how with my first instance of using my phone and him throwing the pen towards me, I have no logical reasoning to make except it was done with disrespect and disrespect likely because I'm black. I'm sorry but this is my feeling as I was there and I felt the moment.
He threw the pen to you because you were using the mobile during classroom, not because you are black.

I don't know why you don't get it.
Or maybe you don't want to.

Few people outside the anglosphere care that it's the flag of a bunch of traitors who lost a war over their right to keep slaves. It isn't really anybody else's problem.

It's just a cool flag.
Not sure if they were "traitors" per se, certainly not from their point of view (quite the opposite in fact)?

I've seen people wearing Confederate flag stuff to whom this would no doubt apply (being stupid and ignorant). When I see an enormous Confederate flag flying proudly on the shores of the Thunersee I'm not sure that applies though (it's since been removed I think, or I haven't been paying attention when going by on the train).

By the same logic the Nazi flag only relates to Hogan's Heroes

Re: How can I report a racist incident/assault and where?

My guess is that it was because our friend Krypton is male. Or because he was wearing his underpants over his tights. Or because it was Tuesday. Or maybe the instructor helpfully tossed the pen to Krypton so he could write down the word he was looking up on his phone.

There are further considerations. Is the instructor colour blind? Perhaps he thought Krypton was red, or green, and was so startled to see a tomato (ripe or unripe) sitting in his classroom that he threw his hands up in surprise, accidentally allowing his pen to fly from his grip. Or perhaps he's simply blind, and couldn't see Krypton at all as he attempted to toss his drained Biro into the waste bin.

I'm not sure we'll ever get to the bottom of this alleged assault.

funny how some people like to talk about being respected, or disrespected, yet show none to others.

You have to earn respect, its not a god given right.

Either that or grow up a bit.

Using a phone in a classroom is obviously unacceptable, regardless of age, colour or gender, and I find it difficult to sympathise with the OP over this. I went on a course running in German only a year or so back, but before I registered, and in the first class with each teacher, I made sure that they were happy with me using a phone or PC to translate, and that the rest of the class understood this too.

As a long-time trainer myself I could easily see how annoying it could be (and how frustration could build up like it must have here) so when on the other side it was obvious to me that out of common courtesy for the teacher and other students this was the only way to go.

Show some respect and you'll most likely be shown respect in equal measure.

I have no respect for anyone that uses 'disrespect' as a verb.

Disrespect through the use of your phone is not reciprocated by throwing a pen towards someone by some 'expert' who gets paid to teach about manners and responsibilities above all.

Wow, it's sad but not surprising to the least bit to see this and other posts in EF trying to take a lenient stance on the face of such blatant use of action. If you want to approve this just to show your disdain for someone else, at least be subtle about it.

if having a pen thrown at you (for disrespecting the tutor) has affected you this much then you must have lead a very sheltered life!!!!

I don´t think anyone took a "lenient" stance on this, some just disagreed with you that this is racist behaviour.

Re: How can I report a racist incident/assault and where?

BTW, what age group is that guy in? I grew up here in the 50s and 60s- and it was quite 'normal' for teachers to throw the board rubber (on a wood frame) - a book, etc, at students- or a good dousing under the cold tap at the classroom sink Oh and to hit our fingers with a metal rulers if we got our times tables or spellings wrong. Not saying it was right (but we learnt quickly) - but the age of the guy might have a lot more to do with this than racism.

As others have said - your use of the mobile was the issue, not race. If you want to use your mobile to check for translations/words- why not discuss this and explain that you are not using your mobile for fun and displaying disrespect.

No. I am still raging about this ( racist people make me sick ) and it wouldn't likely affect him much. I think I will confront him and pray he throws the first punch, that's all I'm hoping for.

I'm not going to be subtle about "that", simply because you attempt to define what is acceptable or not.
To be fair, I was curious about the topic, read and immediately how much harm you are doing to real victims of racism by crying the wolf about something stupid, insignifiant, and which clearly indicates how you are offended and refusing to accept consequences for your own actions.

Sure, sure, the teacher allegedly did something wrong, it's not even in question here. What sucks is your pathetic attempt at victimization and sad efforts to collect some sort of "popular opinion". Especially when you are receiving various feedback and denying the one not going in your dumb favor.

Who do you think we are? Your mama? Judges? Do you want a virtual hug comfort? If so, move along because it's not going to happen, at least not with me.

Oh by the way, we're not lenient about the actual "throwing the pen" alleged incident, I'm more bothered about your inability to react properly in due time. I would have loved to receive a pen like that, I would have certainly sent it back with equal amount of love and affection and then apologized for my behavior with the phone. Others are going to cry on the internet about it, I guess we all react differently.

#Imavictimbooh, #metoo, #calimero, #pathetic, #dumbclaim

PS: Thanks for the poor effort of giving behavioral advice, I guess you'd better put your lessons in practice prior to comment on others. #ThatWasNotSubtle.

Re: How can I report a racist incident/assault and where?

Annoying but not necessarily racially motivated. I had one former colleague throw a stapler at the head of another colleague for talking too loudly on the phone in an open plan office.

In his mind he was totally justified as he warned him to be quiet already. Sometimes people overreact when they feel disrespected.

He is 33.

The use of mobile is not the issue. He could have told me to leave or give me a warning but decided to throw a pen right at me, I could have been injured and didn't show any remorse afterward and implied he would do it again. That is the issue and no one as far as I can tell was was on his side during the course
