Is it fuelling laziness and zero hours contracts .. or really convenient and helping people work for themselves..?

how it works in the UK at least .. You can order through the day and have same day delivery until 9pm.. Your stuff is mostly delivered by somebody in their own car, often an Uber. These cars meet up at hubs, usually pub car parks or services where the van load of orders is shared out to waiting cars ..

It seems to work. But also feels like it’s killing small biz etc
The inevitable (and sad) reality is that small businesses that don't have their own niche will die off in droves within the coming next couple of decades, especially as Amazon et al continue to diversify into other areas such as fresh foods and groceries etc.

The only way I see local businesses competing and surviving in developed areas is if they develop some kinds of franchise agreements with the big players.

Uhm no? But if you are in Finland, doesn´t Amazon deliver there directly?
Snooping where I'm located on my profile in this forum it's not really wise… I arrived two and half moths ago and, call me crazy, but changing my location in this forum wasn't my priority.

Ummm your location shows up on every post, there is no need for anyone to snoop.

I was just kidding… but you shouldn't believe everything people post on internet. Beside, I would be asking about that if I was right now living in Finland and or I wasn't planning to move to Switzerland?????

I guess I'm not entirely sure, but I do have amazon prime and am pretty sure I've noticed before that amazon.de seems to sometimes offer faster shipping with Prime even when shipping to CH.

And for things that can't be shipped to CH (and can be shipped only within Germany), we use a service by the name of grenzpaket.ch that allows you to use their German address. They have multiple locations and only charge about 5 Euros for each package to be picked up. They also accept large(ish) packages.
Thanks a lot for the tip! do they offer full forward to one's address or do you need to collect somewhere?

Don't worry about it. Most people with basic common sense would have assumed you were now in Zurich or asking because you were planning to. roegner has also been on the forum for long enough to know that it is very common for people to move here and forget to update their location and should know better than to make silly and unnecessary posts like that.

Can someone illustrate me on why some people seem so obsessed with Amazon? I'm glad they are not in Switzerland. Glad that they can't shift their profits to Ireland. Glad that people don't get scammed with fake reviews. Glad that people don't get scammed with fake Chinese products...
Amazon is a generalist, like Aldi. Good enough products, low prices, but if you're looking for something special in your areas of expertise....shop somewhere else.

On the workers/taxes side, Amazon is well-known punching bag around the world. Even the local politicians are after it. So no worries, Amazon is on the spotlight and they have to behave well. https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/parcel-...nment/44110036

Such as? That seems like a very vague statement. You can find quite a lot of specialist or obscure stuff on Amazon through 3rd party sellers.

Mountain bikes and parts, direct sales from manufacturer. Third-party party sellers are unnecessary overhead costs.

. But also feels like it’s killing small biz etc
On the other hand, I now regularly purchase from a couple of small businesses because of Amazon.

I am uncomfortable buying from a new online business. (New in the sense that I have no experience with them.) I don't know how secure their website is, if their quality matches what the product description implies, I don't know how customer-friendly they are, how reliable delivery is, return practices, und und und.

I had my eye on a couple of companies that offered things I need/want that I could not find elsewhere, but was hesitant to try them out due to all of the above.

Lo and behold I found that those companies also sold via Amazon. As I have used Amazon for years there is trust already built up, I know my transaction is safe with Amazon, and these third party sellers participated in Amazon's buyer protection guarantee.

So thanks to Amazon, a couple of small companies that I otherwise likely would not have given a chance now get regular orders from me.

Re: Amazon Prime [delivery] coming to Switzerland

Hi guys

I am wondering what happens if I miss amazon delivery? Will they send it to the closest post office?

Sorry if the question is silly, I am just new to CH. In DE I was all the time ordering just to the kiosk next door so never missed anything.

Thanks!

May depend on your post account preferences but they usually just leave ours at the entrance of the building if too big for the milk box and in the milk box if small enough...

As I understand it, if it comes with Swisspost which it probably will, they should take it to the nearest post-office and offer you either to pick it up yourself or have it delivered on a different date.
If you open a Swisspost account you can manage your deliveries online including giving them an authorisation to e.g. leave the parcel with a near (like within 150m) neighbour or elsewhere on your property including on the floor near your front door.

If it comes with other couriers, and possibly sometimes with post too, they might just leave it outside your property or maybe inside a shared entrance if they can get access.

It comes with Swiss Post, so treated like regular post and parcels. It could either be left inside your apartment main building or taken to a local post office (depending on on how the postman is feeling at the time).

Register for an account on the Swiss post website and sign up for email notifications and you will get progress updates on all of your parcels or registered mail.

Re: Amazon Prime [delivery] coming to Switzerland

There's also a 'Deposit Consignment' service, where one pays an annual fee (40chf or 60chf? I forget) for packages to be delivered to the front door of your apartment (and can also include Saturday deliveries).

Am using the POST app on my phone to manage/track deliveries.

So far, has worked swimmingly. Fully recommended!

Is this offered via post or amazon, because I have a “deposit order” on all my post deliveries, and can even change things i need to sign for to deposit. Everything is left in my mail box or at the door. Most at the door. And I’ve never paid for the service.

And I use the tracking app as well.

The service is automated and should not require additional manual input from Post workers (apart from an IT department obviously).

It must save the post office time and money in reductions in returned, re-directed, and repeat deliveries so it would really not be in their interest to ask customers to pay for it.

To clarify - I pay to have the Post bring the packages to the floor/apartment door, not only to the main door of the building where I reside.

Oh, I see. For some reason they do that anyway.
