Star Wars movie for 8 y.o?

Hi all
Tried to search the forum, but did not find a definite answer.
I’d like to take my 8 y.o. to the new Star Wars movie. The age rating for the film is 14/12, meaning kids as of 12 y.o. are allowed in if accompanied by an adult. At the same time, I believe that SW is fine for the age of 8.
Would cinema personnel refuse entry in this case? Did anyone have an experience bringing kids to the movies that had higher age rating in ZH cinemas?
Thanks in advance!

I really don't think an 8yr old will enjoy the film, its a bit more adult orientated then the last one, and in places a lot more violent.

I got the impression disney realised they aren't making SW films for kids anymore

If they suspect the kid is to young they might ask for proof of age and then by law are demanded to refuse your kid entry.

You might be in luck that nobody asks or checks, you might be in bad luck and end up buying tickets for a nice cartoon (and download the movie at home)

Re: Star Wars movie for 8 y.o?

Go see it first, then decide whether to take your kid...

As said, the movies are getting more 'confronting' as we go along...

Has he seen all the others ?

Just saw it yesterday, Disney completely destroyed Star Wars. It;s definitely made for kids now, looked more like comedy than action movie.

Nothing offensive either, imo it's fine for a 8yo

So nothing's changed then?

I would read the 14/12 guidance as suggesting a maximum age limit, not a minimum.

We just came back from the theater - that movie is a hot mess and I wouldn't recommend ANYONE going to see it, regardless of the age

Still, kids like this kind of stuff, and from what I know of 8 year olds (almost nothing), I didn't see anything dreadfully violent. I mean, other than the typical hacking and slicing that comes with light sabres, or course.

Oh no! My husband and I drew straws on which one of us was going to take our 11 year old. I drew the short straw. Now I'm looking forward to it even less *sigh*. The things we do for our kids ...

Just see it, there are people who don't like it, there are people who love it. Critics and reviews give it good grades. Only one way to find out if you like it.

Age ratings are a cantonal thing. For example in ZG it is 9 and SG 12/10.
The cinema personal may prevent entry in case the age gap is to obvious.
In the worst case the police makes checks at the entrance Seen this only once when my dad brought my sister and me in a 16 movie. They asked how old we were and he said the right age and we just agreed

Re: Star Wars movie for 8 y.o?

Just went and watched it. My verdict... Yes your eight year old can view it, if he or she is not coddled in cotton wool or is called Tarquin. In my opinion J.J. Abrams should never have been allowed to do either the starwars or the startrek stuff, perhaps in hell he will have to do documentaries, something like the life and death of lichen. If that is what passes for world cinema these days then ok, but I watched the original in 1977 so my expectations are quite high.

Don't know what you all are complaining about. I thought it was best of the new Star Wars movies and way better than Force Awakens.

I like the new star wars pretty much, but when this is your first star wars movie, it will be a struggle to follow the story.
The film in my opinion is not for a 8 year old kid, the kid should be at least 12 years old or older.

Yes, this is really the only "right" answer.

lol...true, but I'd happily swap sitting in a warm cinema with some goodies, than suffer 2.5 hours in dreich Scottish weather with horizontal rain penetrating 4 layers of clothing as you try and look happy watching your wee one play for his local footy team!

If your 8 year old child plays fighting video games recommended for an older age group, like so many other 8 year olds, then I would imagine this movie will not shock.

Re: Star Wars movie for 8 y.o?

I would normally advise anyone who wants to see the The Last Jedi to be swimming in the lethargic effects of too many alcoholic beverages but in the case of your 8-year old, I think explaining the story using puppets beforehand might be more appropriate.

A previous poster said "hot mess." I agree completely.

Speaking of... what was the deal with the

***SPOILER ALERT ***

iron?

EDIT

And what about the creepy scene of Luke milking an alien cow (who was completely enjoying the hands-on feeling) and then drinking the stuff? My God, that was not Jedi-like but just green-puking disgusting.

I would be careful.....there are many nicer cartoon that are probably more suitable for a 8 yrs boy (and probably with a better message as well)

It could only have been worst if they had added a zombie Jar Jar Binks, but then they had them puke saccharine cutey cute penguin things as comic relief. The original had some sublime comedy moments but this offering tried to be funny in a PC conform way making the "jokes" and I use the term flexible... strained! I struggled through J.J. Abrabinks Startrek beyond but I have never so very wanted a way to fast forward the cringey bits of The last Jedi, perhaps as Luke said the Jedi should die and so should the franchise. By the way what was with Yoda doing the funky chicken?

There were just so many things wrong in this movie.

My husband, who is a die-hard Star Wars fan, kept giving me sidelong glances at some of the cringier scenes. And later he told me he just closed his eyes during some of the "boring" parts
