What is the point of a reka card

OK so i have a Reka card, but am not entitled to the discounted cheques so i'm wondering now what is the point of having this card?

seems just to double up as a bank card but has a few benefits with a few small discounts here and there but nothing much else

do you guys use it for anything else ?

Re: What is the point of a reka card

Why would you take a reka-card if you have no clue what to do with it?

Not sure if you've seen this page but maybe it gives you more ideas of what to do with the card?

Think you get a 2% discount on SBB with it. Makes a small difference on a GA or travel card.

You don't need a "reka card" for that.

You just visit the local Coop and buy Reka Checks 3% off, then buy your GA with them straight away. It's quite silly but it saves you 3% on a GA which is over 100 CHF...

Re: What is the point of a reka card

If never heard of a Reka card, according to this (google is my friend, it doesn't like you, I take it? ) you can upload it. Before you throw it away you should check if you still have a credit on it

As already mentioned, Reka cheques can be bought in all kinds of places. (So you don't need to be "entitled")

I inherited quiet a lot once, thought they were weired until I found out that a hotel I go to regularly accepts them. Had some lovely, free week-ends after that
I can't be bothered to buy them myself either, as 3% is not really worth the hassle. At 10% I might think about it again.

Re: What is the point of a reka card

My OH’s employer sponsors the card with a yearly 20% discount on charge up to a certain amount. Charging the card above this amount is possible for everybody with a 2% discount. We pay our public transport abos & train travel with it. The advantage above the cheques is that you can use the card in the SBB online shop.

Since around Oct-Nov you can no longer purchase the annual or monthly u-Abo public transport passes, at least in Basel. Which is really annoying, as this was my primary reason for have a REKA card (20% discount from employer).

I'm fairly sure you could easily get someone here to buy any value on your Reka card for 10% off then

well, slowly chipping away at the balance by using it to pay for fuel for the car, though most of the time it still works out cheaper buying this over the border in DE

This is not correct. I learned in 2016 that you can go to the SBB Basel and pay with Reka card the annual U-Abo. I just did last week for the 2018 U-Abo. And yes, the annual U-Abo is also the main reason why I await the 20% discount from my employer!
