What are my options of disposing a PC case?

It's empty. It's made out of plastic + metal + cloth/mesh.
I live in Bern.

Options I've identified so far:
1) Carry an 8kg (empty) PC case to a recycling center X km away from me (and I also live about 40m below the city level, so need to climb stairs)-> no
2) Wrap it up in a blue garbage bag and put it out on the appropriate day -> absolutely yes
3) Mark it as "Frei" and put it outside the house -> no, it's broken, nobody will want it
4) Leave it in the house and try to pretend it's not there -> ???
5) Any suggestion from you people that won't get me a fine. Please list them here. Thanks

I like this one

Where I live I guess I could stick one of those stickers on and put it outside as "Sperrgut" on the normal trash-day.

You don't have to take it a recycling centre. You can take it to your nearest shop which sells consumer electronics.

Frankly, I go for option 4 until my wife's patience finally cracks...

Spoilsport. I was hoping for some DIY pics after OP decided to re-purpose the case!

Hey, those are good ideas, thanks, but I'm not really passionate about that, so, does anyone want the case to do what those images suggest? It's free!

Anyway, I will ask my colleagues at work about the 2'nd option (wrap it in the specific garbage bag and put it out for collection) as I don't really know if that is permitted for something like a PC case. Will come back with info, unless of course someone wants a new aquarium project? or flower pot case?...no?..ok...

No, no. None of that. Do as NotAllThere says - take it to any electronics store. They have to take it. When you buy electronics here it includes a recycling fee. Super handy.

Sell on ricardo for money

Put up for bidding from 1 Fr and unless you live in the middle of nowhere somewhere would likely buy and pick it up

I can't tell if you were judgemental there but if you were, try holding your arms up for 10 minutes, so you can see the meaning of "heavy", now try doing that with an 8 KG object. And I can carry it, but why work hard when you can work smart? If you weren't, then ignore this .

Anyway, the best solution that I found is in the following link for anyone from Bern (idk if this is implemented in other cities/kantons): http://www.bern.ch/themen/abfall/ent.../oekoinfomobil
Very nice that the 'city' has thought of doing this

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

Just to sum it up for other people reading this thread:
- think about repurposing the item you want to throw away (use the internet for ideas)
- try to sell it if it's not completely broken (spare parts maybe? it wasn't the case with my...case..PC case)
- try to bring it to an electronics store for collection
- try taking it to a recycling center
- get all the info you can on recycling in your current city, you never know when you'll find an ÖkoInfoMobil

I did see the first post. It was part of an electronic device and so the tax has paid for recycling.

EF it.
If you're working at UBS then you just dump it in the last meeting room that
you were last "re-organised in"

Techincally it still has the fan controller in it, since it is built-in, so bringing it back to an electronics store should have also worked.

I referred to a post of 3Wishes

I didn't think they would take an empty case.
But to be honest I also would have just put it behind Mediamarkt, where they let you dump electronic stuff.
