Missing package- any recourse?

Hi all,

I'm a new resident of Geneva. First time ordering a package online to be delivered by Swiss Post (have had success with a couple ordered delivered by DPD). The online tracking system listed the package as "delivered to the letterbox" this morning, but it's not there. I'm in an apartment building with a private box, and in theory only I have the key, so I'm not sure where this package could have gone.

Any ideas on what recourse I may have either with Post, the shipper, etc?

Thanks for any advice.

Have you asked your neighbours if one of them has received it?

It's possible that they mark it as such when it leaves with the postal carrier in the morning. Has your normal mail already been delivered today? If so, check for the yellow slip. If not, be patient, it may still be underway.

Re: Missing package- any recourse?

If it is a package then likely they left it before the door of your apartment building, they do not ring the door bell any more.

It it is not there then if it was a packet that had to be signed for do ask Swiss Post to prove it was delivered.

Your only other recourse is an insurance claim but if you have to pay the first CHF xx yourself or want to maintain a claim free record then probably not a good idea.

Inform the supplier and raise a lost package support request. Standard procedure, surely? From there find out what your options are.

I had similar issues, especially with couriers like DPD and UPS, and so far the supplier has resolved them.

Re: Missing package- any recourse?

Call Swiss post first and ask them. I once had a parcel marked as delivered, but it was delivered to the wrong address. The post retrieved the parcel, and delivered it a day or two later.

Sometimes the times don‘t match. Things are marked as delivered, only to be delivered later

Ask your neighbors, they may have accepted a parcel for you.

If the parcel is too big for my box, it is left at my door. Sometimes they ring, sometimes not.

Re: Missing package- any recourse?

Thanks for the comments folks. Today's another day of feeling like an idiot why-didn't-I-think-of-this style. Our mailbox unit (with about 30 or so individual boxes for the residents) also has some large unmarked and unlocked boxes built in. Of course, the package was in one of those once I thought to ask myself what those unmarked boxes were for! In the words of the great, "D'oh!"

Glad you found it! Most of us will admit to a d’oh moment from time to time.

In future you can aways adress yourself at c/o Poste Restante (Z.Hd. Postrestant) and then your local post office will keep it for up to 4 weeks, free of charges. www.post.cvh
