By the way Sva, as st2lemans says, should be that, I mean there was no one at risk nor nothing like that...

Also, trust Google maps! look:

Google Maps would have tell you to turn right, go to the roundabout and then continue to the way you wanted to go...

Re: Expected fines / punishments?

"If you have completed this maneuver with a car, criminal proceedings will be initiated in Switzerland. In this case, a judge decides in individual cases, depending on the degree of danger, about the punishment to be imposed. With low danger the amounts are in the range of 350 CHF plus procedural fees (about 300 CHF)."

Yours was a dangerous manouever so you can expect a much higher fine

And your GPS excuse would be laughed at in court.

You would be looking at maybe 1000 CHF fine

Go and make a picture of the scene of the crime especially to turn signs. If they were covered then it will help you in your defence.

Fits. At least OP is consistently living in the past.

Some people even drop into rivers because the navi tells them to. Do we have to worry?

Oh dear, I was just joking.

You know how it works at school: If you misspell a word the same way throughout a text, it only counts as one mistake
So using a timed-out navi, then post a timed-out google map .....
whatever, enjoy the week-end.

You seem a little uptight. I might suggest some meditation.

You do raise a good point about what constitutes 'identity'. Is your gut microbiome part of 'you'? Are your relationships with other people part of that identity? Could your 'smart' technology (particularly that which is used to replace critical thought processes) be included...?

I did it once, CHF 40 fine.

Tom
Recieved letter (and bill of course)

I got 30 chuffs! Oh, happy, happy, day!!

The letter reads :

we have received a police report regarding non observation of signal 'Right turn only' and crossing two white lines.

After examining the report, we have decided, in view of the circumstances of the case, not to pursue the incident ..... we however issue you a warning, as it is indispensable that every driver puts all efforts to contribute to road safety.

So, explaining your case VERY POLITELY and in French seems to help.

Goofed up and crossed TWO thick white lines by mistake (red arrow, in pic below), and as luck would have it, a police car was driving along just there (blue rectangular-ish squiggle in pic)

Was stopped and questioned by the Police Officer

PO: Mister, do you know why we have stopped you?
Me: Yes, sir. I very well understand my fault, but this is the 1st time i'm here, and my GPS told me to turn left, and after i realised i crossed the white line, there was incoming traffic from my left, so i had no choice but to proceed.

After which the PO checked license, car papers, took all my details etc etc and said that he understood very well my problem, but a fault is a fault, and that 'they' will decide, depending on my past record the fine and the punishment.

This is my first offence - so, what am i in for?
i paid 700 CHf + 200 CHF tip for a similar offense. that was 2006.

Inflation does not apply to traffic fines AFAIK, so quoting the year is useless
Other info would help...

Very pleased for you and I'm delighted to be proven wrong as I also thought the fine would be much higher. No prison either - so a good reason for a celebratory meal tonight.

Re: Expected fines / punishments?

In other news, I just got a chf150 fine for having snow on the roof of my car. Grrrr.

This was Aigle, Canton Vaud, which is also responsible for all the cameras on the Autoroute round to Geneva, which I've always thought of as a pure money-making excercise.

No. inflation doesn't. But drastic raise/change of the fixed fines does. So yes, quoting the year is helpful.

What other info? You will not seriously start questioning your fine? LOL.

I think you were very lucky for some reason we shall never know, it was a tripple offense (turning left in a turn right only junction, crossing not one but two solid lines) at a place where this would have been really dangrous if there were lots of traffic.
Nobody here should expect to have your luck and try this out.

So for you I think all there is to do is be very happy about it all
