Someone stole the parcel from my letter box

Hi

So, I've been away for a couple of days, and in the meantime there were two parcels delivered to my place. They were placed in the box below the letter box. There's no lock on this box.

The packages are not there anymore, obv someone has stolen them. They were not crazy expensive, but still.

What should I do? Who's responsible if anyone? Can I even get my money back for something I did not receive (but the tracking says it's delivered)

This is legally your responsibility, ask your fellow apartment-people first and if they have no clue then forget about the packages and take your loss.

If you go away you should always sign up for temporary retention of your mail https://www.post.ch/en/private/recei...n-mail-private

You can of course try and get your money back but it depends on who sent the package as to how generous they will be.

Re: Someone stole the parcel from my letter box

it is possible , to pick up the parcels at the postoffice when you got the parcelnumber, you will receive an email in advance when you created a login at post.ch.
Then you can redirect the parcel to a place you want.

It's also possible a neighbour took the packet in for you. I wouldn't accuse them but ask if by any chance etc.

I certainly have taken packets in and placed them in front of their door if the packet was sticking out of the box, or placed to the side of it.

^This. My neighbors always know when I am going away, and if they spotted a parcel they'd take it in for me and keep it. Of course in our building sticky notes are the norm for communication, so I'd have a sticky note on my door telling me to pop over for coffee and a chat, and to pick up the parcel.

If your packet is sticking out of your box, you need new trousers.

Re: Someone stole the parcel from my letter box

Recently I contacted the post and made an agreement that no package will be left at the door but anything which does not fit the locked compartment but do fit the bigger one will be placed there. That suits me well but hearing your experience it may not be best choice either. I will ask my neighbor to empty the box when I go away for a few days.

Better use the Pickpost - Service:

https://www.post.ch/en/private/a-z-o...le_na_na_ppbra

You can collect your parcel at the post office yourself at any time you want! there are no extra costs. But it does not work for parcels sent via DHL or DPD, only Swiss post.

Even in relatively crime-free Switzerland, I would only have parcels delivered to a secure ploace such as one of those 'Parcel Motels'

Re: Someone stole the parcel from my letter box

I have had the same situation twice. About 6 months ago, the package was lost and I contacted the vendor and they replaced the product. I made an order with the same vendor again but this time it's lost /stolen. The tracking says 'Delivered to the mailbox /letterbox' on 23 March. I reached out to the same vendor and he advised to contact Police and provide them with a police report.
I haven't been to Police station for any reason, but is it an easy process? Do I have to pay anything for the report?
Thanks for your advice.

Something similar happened to me. The tracking number said that the package was delivered but there was no package. Nothing with the neighbours.

First I contacted the seller in China. He wouldn't do anything and referred me to the post.

Swiss Post had received the package from China Post. Neither would take responsability.

Not wanting to be a victim, and since it was an online purchase made with a credit card, I contacted the credit card issuer. I never received the product and provided various paperwork to this effect. They cancelled the charge.

I'm sure that some aspi here will go on and on about why that's wrong but it worked for me.

Re: Someone stole the parcel from my letter box

A new house was built on my street last year and their mail box has a place for letters and the lower portion locks and holds packages.

I found this link on the Homeowner's Association.
https://www.hev-schweiz.ch/news/deta...ie-aber-nicht/

Apparently there are units available not only for single houses but also for apartments. I think this is a really good idea for apartment buildings in particular.

Obviously something requiring a signature cannot be left in any box, nor can oversize items.

Re: Someone stole the parcel from my letter box

Actually, it may not be your own responsibility.

I had this happen to me not long ago (not sure if someone took it or whether it just disappeared). So I called the post office and they said they are liable because I didn't give a general permission to leave packages in my mailbox, meaning they theoretically need to be deposited at the post office if I am not home as officially, postmen are not allowed to just leave them. They often do it to save people time to go to the post office and generally, that is appreciated (by me anyway), however when something goes missing, they are responsible.

I then contacted the store who sent me my delivery and told them to get in touch with the post office to arrange compensation. They did. Two days later, my replacement delivery arrived.

Edit: Just realized this is an old thread that someone dug out. I'll leave the comment though in case helpful for anyone.

I've had the wrong package delivered... the guys had to come back and pick it. I guess it is partly the times we live in.

Mr Dog says he fully sympathises with you as he just had one of his toys stolen from his garden. He can give a full description - white, fluffy medium size and not on a lead! He barked loudly and the thieve ran off at speed with the stolen item firmly in its mouth.
