Re: Coop or Migros?

Migros seems to have better produce where I am, but the lack of booze has to tip the balance towards the others.

Having recently moved to Adliswil, we have one big Migros, and a small Coop.Bread always sucks at Migros. Coop sometimes has great bread, but their baker seems to be horrified of having any leftovers, and there is usually no good bread left, when I arrive after work, so mostly I leave coop without bread, and either deal with it, or drive to Lidl in Gattikon

That's why I stop by Denner on my way to work, or during the morning coffee break (also a great time to snag whatever they have 50% off on).

Earlier Lidl as it was just next door.. easy get out, get it... no need to carry big shopping list except for few items which weren't available there ...

But now Coop... but it's slightly expensive compared to Migros.. but I like it more...

Re: Coop or Migros?

I go to both Migros and Coop, and usually in the same trip because they're opposite each other in our village. Bread, gipfeli and most fruit and veg from Migros, then Coop for bananas, potatoes, his fave chocolate and muesli, my yoghurt, etc... Laundry stuff from Lidl, plus OH's fish and lasagne from Aldi.

I prefer Coop! My husband is a Migros Kind, so he always went to Migros but since I'm doing the shopping it's now mainly Lidl and everything I cannot find there, will be bought in Coop :D

As it doesn't sell Alcohol Migros is dead to me.

(why does migrolino sell it?)

Sorry, I refuse to whole heartedly support either monopoly. Manor grocery is by far the best!

Coop in person, Le Shop online.

Though I wish Migros would ditch the excessive packaging that they use for their deliveries. I'm not particularly environmentally conscious, but the amount waste plastic and bubble wrap in an average shop astounds even me.

Lately I notice I always spend over 100.00 at Coop and got hardly anything to eat while shopping at Migros for 50.00 can feed me almost a week.

Interesting.

I don't really pay all that much attention, but my experience is the opposite. If I stop in the Migros for a generic couple of meals (say, a noodle auslauf, and some Poulet gschnetzeltes & Rice) then it generally ends up costing more than I normally pay at Coop.

Re: Coop or Migros?

I used to do some shopping at Coop as there was a big one near me, now I shop at Migros for the same reason. But the odd times I do pop into a Coop I find it a lot more expensive than Migros. And the Migro Budget range is mostly pretty decent.

For household stuff and wine I go to Denner from time to time and for veg I buy in the market where I work, for basic stuff like potatoes, onions, tomatoes mushrooms etc it's the same price as Migros and for more exotic stuff it's better quality than any of the supermarkets (I also buy all my cheese in the same place ;)). For rice and spices I go to the various ethnic stores around Langstrasse.

Actually I usually call it noodle Einlauf, but only my children get the joke.

Re: Coop or Migros?

Lidl, Coop and Bettio (in Pfaffikon SZ).

I can't stand Migros. It just grates with me and seems to have a policy of selling me what it thinks I should buy to cook with rather than what I want to buy to cook with.

Having said that, Migros sells Creme de Gruyere and Coop doesn't so it's not all bad.

Re: Coop or Migros?

Migros strictly for bread (it's seriously amazing, sometimes it's still hot from the oven! The Krustenkranz never makes it back home untouched).
I always shop there since it's open until late (20:00), but I never had particular problems even with M-budget products.

However, I choose Coop if I need higher quality products, mesli, chocolate and yogurt (Migros always fills these up with sugar!). And, of course, for beer: they have a nice quality selection.
Last time I discovered a lot of expired crme double on their shelves...

That shelves Entenmann's cakes

Re: Coop or Migros?

Farmer's market or the garden for fresh produce.

Local bakery for gipfeli.

Coop for most of the rest.

Denner for the booze and detergents.

The OH also likes Aldi, but I try to avoid it if I can.

And this despite having a Migros next door. I normally only pop in there when I only need a single item and I'm too lazy to walk to one of the other shops.
