I blew a bargain

Yesterday I was in Migros and I saw plastic food containers at 50% off.
So I got one.
When I got home I realized that I had to buy 2 of em to get the discount.
Dam you Migros!
Do the conditions have to be so small and illegible?

That's not uncommon at Migros. They do it often with laundry and dishwasher detergents as well. Another thing I've noticed, at least in my local store, is that there are often items very close to an Aktion sign that are not actually part of the Aktion.

I'm not suggesting it's deliberately deceptive but I always look to make sure the brand, item, size, etc. include the item I want.

you can always return to the shop and discuss, for that type of item it's easy to return and get the deal (in fact it's getting one box free, no?)

Coop do this all the time. In the meat chiller chest have a sign saying “Aktion” about pork chops when the chest is full of minced beef or similar.

Yes, need to look carefully - and safest to check the price per kg on the item! Also check the date or often the calendar week in the small print, as sometimes (in our Coop at least) the signs hang around for longer than the offer.

At Migros, some of the offers continue while stocks last even when the relevant calendar week is over. I think it depends if the item on offer is in special packaging (Multi-pack, unusual size, or similar). If not (e.g. buy 2 save 60Rp.), back to normal price.

That offer of half price plastic boxes at Migros *when you buy 2 or more* comes around regularly. (With the plastic boxes it is all of them half price, not just every second one, but you do have to buy at least two.) You won't get caught again will you OP!

I made a big mistake at Migros and took a plastic bag at the self check-in, without scanning it.
I was treated like a criminal that I was, they didn't take my apologies seriously.

There have recently been articles in the papers about people being caught forgetting to scan their expensive meat at Migros and Coop. Watch this space for unfortunates being taken to court over the plastic bags.

I think the Swiss supermarkets learned from the best con merchants in the business. The UK seems to be a world leader in hoodwinking customers with dodgy "offers"...

Probably why I'm a dab hand and spotting supermarket BS a mile off in Switzerland.

Not sure if this is an exception but their current "50% on all Hygo products" applies to both you have to buy, and to all if you buy more.

LOL, so what are they supposed to do, put a meter distance around "Aktionen". That will cost so much rent that the "Aktion" can't be done anymore.

Yep, you got until June 4th. Would do it today though.

LOL. So Nanny (Migros) should tell each child (customer) the details of an "Aktion" but child can just grab things freee and should be ..... "ah well, they're children (customers) ..." excused?

THAT is outrageous! Fr. 350.00 is a peanut-case?! And had it been a poor welfare recipient, I'm sure the verdict would have been a fine, the person would have payed off within ..... 10 years! (There was a time when hunger was an excuse for theft).
The judge would probably have told him something like "you knew you couldn't afford to pay it".
And even at the Swiss prices - does anyone of you often buy meat worth Fr. 350.00 in one shopping?

However, I really don't think, Migros does "Aktionen" in order to have a chance to cheat on people by being unclear. It's funny, these reactions to robBob's hint that he's far-sighted Which is a problem actually. You try to see the ingredients, because they are in - at least - 3 languages, the font-size is something like -5.

What would really be worth complaining about is that when you use passabene at Coop, the prices scanned in are not identical with the price on the goods. And don't give me the "oops, that was not adjusted yet" (that's what they tell you each time) because a) the price on the scanner is always higher and b) it just happens too often to be a slip.
I stopped using passabene long ago for this reason, too big a nuisance.

Unlike some "Aktionen" not being marked idiot-proof, I seriously think the passabene-system is planned fraud!
I can't judge the Migros system as it came later and I never tried it.

Re: I blew a bargain

Yes, the mind boggles doesn't it. "Obviously you are so well paid that Fr.350 (or 270? Not clear if the 80 he did scan was included) worth of meat is entirely forgettable in the distance from the meat fridge to the checkout. And obviously we can't destroy the career of a well-paid person like you, even if we might claim to think we don't want fraudsters in the financial industry." Etc. etc.

I do still use the passabene (and Migros subito) as it helps me to keep track of the size of the shop and put something back if I think I am spending too much. Coop's objectionable "Masche" is "Aktion an Kasse möglich" - or whatever, cannot remember the wording. What does that mean when I scan a bag of flour? Do I need to buy a second bag of flour at the same time to get the Aktion? Does it have to be the same kind of flour? Sometimes there's a shelf label to tell you ... sometimes there isn't.

The other useful aspects of the hand scanners are:
1) you see right away that the plastic box has not been reduced in price, so you have a prompt to look back at the display and notice the Large sign right by the 50% saying AB 2 STÜCK; and
2) if doing a big shop you know when you have 99Fr. in the trolley so you can get another double points voucher if you just add one very small item that you would probably buy next week anyway.

Of course you have to submit to being spied on and profiled. Personally I am interested in saving money more than in keeping my shopping choices confidential.

<<"Aktion an Kasse möglich">> RIGHT! That was an other one back then: Often you had to remind them of the "Aktion" as it was "conveniently" forgotten. I don't like shopping per se. So I seriously don't want to do their job.

<<you know when you have 99Fr. in the trolley so you can get another double points voucher>> Wow, the things you know I didn't know they had a system behind these double-point-vouchers. I thought it was just to annoy me, like I just got rid of one, they give me a new one

Re: I blew a bargain

Spend Fr.100 or more in one transaction, get a 2x points voucher.
Spend Fr.500 or more, get a 5x points voucher. That one's not so easy at the supermarket, unless Fr.350 of meat is within the weekly budget, but quite achievable kitting out family at SportXX, why do children keep growing?

I try to swap my 2x voucher jeweils for a new one - only ever use it if the shop is more than 100. Works for me.

The random looking 20x or 40x points on something specific are the evil part based on analysing what you buy. So for me, the offers on onions & garlic and pH neutral shower gel come around regularly (and we only ever buy the shower gel at, effectively, a discount).

ETA: I hate shopping.
