Shite in series

...and it's not even the "Crap Thread"!

But when your grandma is admitted to hospital, you deal with the fire brigade pumping out water of your cellar while trying to get the construction company to get their act together because of their useless, faulty construction and suddenly you have to rush your cat for an emergency, there is only one way forward...cup of tea!

Re: Shite in series

Sorry to hear you are having a run of awful events.

Best wishes for your grandmother, and for your kitty.

(And for the other stuff, too - but 'stuff' pales in comparision when loved ones are in a bad way.)

Have a cuppa, may you get better news soon.

I think that a Flake bar would even be justified, given the circumstances.

You threatened to go back home - guess they wanted to keep you.

Plus you should seriously practice your yodelling, you must have been out of tune on a few notes

Sorry about your grandma and the cat.

Operation due Thursday afternoon, then Friday a.m., now postponed to Monday...it's not just the NHS then! The idea to bring grandma over was for her to enjoy a better care in her old days...mmm, not so sure now.

Hmmm, maybe you could strike a deal: How many emergency-victims are you willing to pay the funural for in order for your granny not having to wait 5 days?

You can afford to be rational when you are not seeing a dear one in agony.

If she is in agony....get a doctor in the room and insist on pain relief. Butter up the nurses** if you are having difficulty getting a doctor to appear. Mind you is Grandma McT being stoic and insisting it's OK when she should be accepting pain relief...? (glares at Mr HH who is expert at this....)

**top tip....pop to the baker, get a cake, take it to their break room

Re: Shite in series

I've several times needed to take on the role of advocating for my elderly friends when they are in hospital because from our experiences there seems to be something of a pattern of 'overlooking' senior citizens - often with troubling consequences.

It's a group raised not to complain, add in a cultural bias that devalues the elderly, and sadly all too often that means a senior patient gets the short end of the stick.

If your grandmother is in pain and you do not feel her discomfort is being adequately addressed while she waits for the operation, don't hesitate to become the (local culturally appropriate) squeeky wheel. Especially on a weekend.

Best wishes to your grandmother for her op and recovery.

I think the next stage up for painkillers is Morphine / Opium based, which dear gran refuses categorically to take because it makes her "hallucinate horrible things and I don't want to see them creatures ever again!"
Meanwhile the pain makes her lose her cognitive abilities more drastically, she is lost and confused.

Went this a.m. and managed to take her to the reception area where a coffee and half a waffle later, she was picking up and being far more chirpy. Also she was complaining that her TV was not working properly, a sign of clear improvement!! Turns out you have to pay an additional fee to enjoy access to your bedroom TV and she'd been watching the hospital internal information channel! Greedy bastards! Anyway, this one is sorted. Till tomorrow.

Meanwhile, after the floods, some wasps have decided to build a nest in the corner of the guest room window (guests arrive from England on Monday!!). The fire brigade are going to think I am doing it on purpose to keep them busy!
