Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

Basefit are cheap and cheerful. I wished they opened earlier in Cham.
Got contract with them and then wrote them for termination the following week. Didn't wait 90 day before the contract expires.
Organize your self so you don't have to blame others.

Most trial periods comes with this clause, take a look at Amazon Prime etc.
Actually, Amazon make it really easy to cancel at any point up to the end of the free trial month. They don't even need a valid payment method to take the trial offer, and if you don't supply one it will automatically able at that point.

I've done this a couple of times (a long time apart) to get a specific benefit e.g. free delivery on a heavy item: the most recent time the default payment card had expired but I wasn't able to remove it, hence the auto-call I mention.

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

I cancelled my 3 month discounted membership 2 weeks before the due date and was still charged for the following month. Been trying since November to get my refund, worse curtomerservice ever, no means of reaching anyone in authority always via on line contact form which results in automated email, then your ticket has been closed...NO THE TICKET IS CLOSED WHEN YOU REFUND ME. They are cheap for reason...

And how did you cancel? Registered letter?

An amount debited from your bank account can be cancelled, if it was incorrect. But in a limited time frame.

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

Usually the terms and conditions are never told explicitly to the customer since it is assumed that the customer has been in such contracts before.
Typically, all yearly memberships in most places get auto renewed unless cancelled within the window. And yes, not knowing German isnt a reason. Me too got stuck with a unwanted renewed gym membership

If you read the T&C that should be handed out when you sign the contract, it has to be stated in there when you can cancel. There is no explicit need to tell you that as well.

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

A one star would be a generous review for the type of service from the staff on site, not to mention the overall customer experience which I had there.

Auto renewal of subscription is one thing, but doing everything electronically, including issuing bills, and then have those go to Spam is unacceptable. They do this on purpose, including sending a huge fine for not having paid the bill on time, even though you A) did not realize you were still a member due to auto renewal and B) that you had received bills for this, because they are all sent via email and in spam due to the terrible mailing reputation their domain has.

If you are considering a gym in Switzerland, do yourself a favour, save the hassle and do not go with Basefit.

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

Not taking any responsibility for mistakes we do is certainly not best practice. My view on that behavior at least.
Blaming others when they do nothing obviously and maliciously wrong is bad practice but maybe that helps feeling better?

As others mentioned reading and fully understanding the terms of a contract is a must. Same everywhere in this little world. Nowadays internet offers a great way to make educated decisions. Even automatic translations have greatly improved over the years. Not doing a simple homework comes at a price but a lesson learned can be a life changer ;-)

By the way Basefit has currently (July 2020) an offer that seems too good to be true for a few of their fitness centers. 399.-- all inclusive for a 2 years membership + 20.-- for the badge. Internet offer only ... AND even on their English webpage they clearly mention what happens after the 2 years (yes all small caps, not in bold font and no clear mention of auto-renewal):
*Offer valid only up to 31/07/2020 in Cham, Baar, Pfäffikon, Dietlikon & Winterthur Grüze. Switches to the normal tariff of CHF 499.00 if the subscription is extended – including CHF 200 for the flat-rate savings package. Access to other clubs is not included in the price during the first 24 months. Valid for new members only. Cannot be combined with other promotions or campaigns. Cash redemptions are not possible.
Still to me that seems a great deal and a fair and clear disclosure of restrictions and conditions. By the way when registering the conditions above can be clearly displayed when clicking on details while selecting the offer.

When paying online for the offer you are requested to confirm this:
I agree to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of basefit.ch and you can choose to review them.
Further the following statement (made in German indeed) needs to be accepted:
Ich stimme zu, dass der Vertrag sich jeweils um weitere 12 months zu den allgemeinen Bedingungen verlängert, wenn er nicht mindestens 3 months vor Ablauf durch schriftliche Kündigung aufgehoben wird.
Here the output of Google translate:
I agree that the contract is extended by a further 12 months on the general terms, unless it is canceled at least 3 months before expiry by written notice.

Pretty easy and clear, right? blame game is not really an option I guess...

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

I subscribed to the Basefit 2 years membership (@399.--) and received a confirmation email from Basefit with the following statement clearly displayed (no fine print):

The membership and the additional options are extended by 12 months if they are not cancelled in written form at least 3 months before expiry of the contract.

Possibly that is new. In any case on that basis difficult to blame Basefit for acting maliciously...

My payment with a credit card triggered a confirmation email from Concardis using a noreply@basefit.ch which effectively landed in the junk folder (I used my hotmail account as email address to subscribe to the membership). However no such issue with the confirmation email for the membership which landed in my Inbox...

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

I'm failing to see the problem. Just sign up and cancel in written (and per Einschreiben) well in time to ensure Basefit hasn't got a leg to stand on.

I have this bad experience with Basefit gym, its just the worst.

I didn't look deep on internet for their bad reputation, and their bad reviews everywhere.

I went for 30 days test, They use my bad German against me, and no one told me to cancel my membership before the trial period finishes, I sent cancel email directly after my month finished,
And now they refusing to cancel my membership, even I went there only for 3 days during the whole trial month.

And the worst is, they just ignoring all my messages, and no reply at all.

If it is any solace, we too had a very costly lesson.
Years ago, my wife inquired about Migros German classes on phone, dates didnt fit, we went on holidays, returned only to find - invoice, reminders and reminder fee worth hundreds of francs.

Well,..

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

Switzerland is a country where the letter of the law takes priority over the spirit of the law (hence it is a great place to do business). Never take anything verbal at face value and ALWAYS READ THE CONTRACT. Swiss people/companies feel no ounce of shame or guilt in screwing you over as long as they are acting within the law. Remember, this is a country that got rich from hiding offshore money for tax purposes. Whenever I enter into a transaction here I keep a mental image of some Büenzli wagging their finger at me saying "you should have known....." as a reminder to find out all the details :-)

Re: Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

Brian you must be such a funny guy...
I remember the UK not hiding but stealing... for centuries. But I am quite sure history books must tell something along the lines of "we did every effort to educate these guys..."
Not to speak about the many still very official financial heavens... that are so strongly related to the UK ...but here too the letter of the law is key and you can argue they are not
Anyway sorry for the digression... I simply could not resist that one
