Basefit GYM [auto renewal]

I have this bad experience with Basefit gym, its just the worst.

I didn't look deep on internet for their bad reputation, and their bad reviews everywhere.

I went for 30 days test, They use my bad German against me, and no one told me to cancel my membership before the trial period finishes, I sent cancel email directly after my month finished,
And now they refusing to cancel my membership, even I went there only for 3 days during the whole trial month.

And the worst is, they just ignoring all my messages, and no reply at all.

Welcome to the Forum. Unfortunately, this is where you get to have an expensive learning experience.

The fact you could not understand the contract in German is not their problem. It would be nice if they explained all terms in English, but they don't have to. You're supposed to read before you sign.

Lesson learned: Don't sign anything you don't understand.

you might want to see if you need to cancel by letter, else you might be complaining in a years time that they charge you for a second year. people often cancel by registered post for a reason...

be glad it is just a gym membership. some people have had more expensive lessons regarding cancelling private schools, or property leases...

Further to 3Wishes great advice, they won't reply to emails if you were in default of the contract (by not cancelling in writing). If you want a response you need to send a registered letter.

Oh goody, another "the gym automatically renewed my membership and they are just assholes for screwing me over when I really just couldn't be bothered to ask anyone to translate"-thread Haven't had one of these in a while...

Don't understand something, don't agree to or sign anything. Really quite simple. That's hardly their problem or fault.

Lesson learnt I guess.

Pay attention to the special offer from Basefit, they cheat customer

Dear all,

I would like to share an unpleasant experience that has happened to me and my colleague.

We both bought 1 year's membership from Basefit with their special price. From the beginning, their stuff didn't tell us that the contract will be extended by another 12 months after one year.

I didn't received any inform before the end of the contract, and three months later, we received a payment slip with 200 CHF penalty.

I call them about the reason, their stuff told me that everything was printed in the contract. I told them that I cannot read it as it's all in German, but they just said they have no responsibility to translate it to us.

I was very upset to see this, not only about the money, but mainly about the behavior of this company.
As in other countries, if the contract condition was not been told to the customer clearly in the beginning, we would consider it as cheating.

I want to share my experience here and try to help any of you from being cheating by this company.

As you'll see from the rest of thist thread, you're not the first person to fall foul of a contract you didn't fully understand. Sadly, is nobody's fault but your own.

Automatically renewing memberships, and many other contracts, are very common here, with a three month notification period fairly normal.

THis is unfortunately true and newbies like us get stung all the time :-(

It can work in your favour though. I forgot to renew our annual travel and breakdown insurance and only found out just before a trip.
When I phoned the insurance company they told me not to worry, I was still insured and I could pay next year!

You are absolutely right, so I just want to share this experience to help other people not to get into the same situation.

Anyone who see this message, please don't believe in any special offer or trial from Basefit any more.

For Basefit, I don't know how they can survive by cheating their customers.

No cheating going on. It's not their fault if people sign up to contracts they don't understand. A special offer is always likely to have strings attached, so why Blake them if you didn't even think to wonder what those strings might be?

I'm happy with Basefit, especially if i compare them to what you get at other gyms for a much higher price.

Most of the bad reviews you see out there are in regards to people who've missed the 3-month notice period for canceling their membership. Is it really that difficult to send a registered letter in time?

I was with Basefit for years, no issues at all.
To cancel, I just did it at their reception area, no issues as I was outside the last 3 months before renewal.


Most trial periods comes with this clause, take a look at Amazon Prime etc.

I like Basefit, open late and not too busy (compared to the office gym). And the price was pretty incredible compared to other gyms.

Sorry, but you need to ask at the time of signing if it auto-renews and what the terms are regarding cancellation - welcome to Switzerland!

You could have simply warned others, heck you even could have blamed yourself and have said how stupid you have been.
