Re: Are you happy living in Zurich?

I live in Zug, I don't know if this is really Switzerland because are so many expats and non native speakers. I don't know much about Zurich but my impression is that the locals there aren't very friendly and I don't understand the pushing, knocking and touching other people culture. I love the lakes but I am not convinced by the "quality of life" because of the high prices

I lived in Seoul (24 million people in the metropolitan area, mind you) before moving to Stockholm in fall 2009.

Two weeks after arriving, I was fed up with the Swedes and set myself a target: OK, I'll stay here for the career but for a maximum of 3 years. I have never met more swallow...people in my life, both privately and professionally.
You didn't like Swedish girls?

(And what exactly did you do professionally...)

Re: Are you happy living in Zurich?

Lived in Manhattan for more than 10 years, then large cities in Asia and now Zurich. As has been said, it’s not a large Metropolitan frenzy. But here there is plenty to do, lots of cultural options and much of Europe’s energy cities are a short (and on time) train ride away. Sure I’ve lost some of my edge here but not looking to go back!

Yep, not perfect like no city on earth, but I started to love it here.

Re: Are you happy living in Zurich?

xandeo, what you said about people living in Stockholm is very true... That's a big reason why I want to find other countries to live in... I dont like the smaller cities in Sweden either... Maybe Germany is something?

Thank you everyone for the long answers! Continue to post if you have anything regarding Zurich or stories to tell me in comparison to other big cities in the world and Zurich.

Zurich is great. It is not the most fun of places..it is the most logical. The most logical is hardly ever the most fun, innit.

What I don't understand is this:

1) Every time I go to Zurich, something happens involving unwanted physical contact: shoves, elbows... today, some woman kept touching my hand as I held on to the bar on the tram. The buggers just can't seem to help themselves.

2) Every Zurcher I know is lovely. Some of the most genuinely kind and decent human beings I know are born-and-bred Zurchers.

I'm beginning to wonder if all the rude people in Zurich are just visitors like me!

Logic based on what exactly, and do you mean the city or the whole canton?

For a moment there I thought this was the male me-too movement (guys hands being touched in Zurich-trams unwantedly) start up.

Switzerland in my book is the best country in the world to live in, but doesn't it get boring if you live in Zurich? You probably earn a lot of money and can travel a lot, but what else do you do?
Its a " bankers" city . And bankers are a painfully boring bunch of gowners.
For most Zürich people everything revolves around shopping.....shopping..... and more shopping until collapse! But then again they have so much excess money that they love to give it away.

You must have something special. The worst I have had was when some guy in the the tram spat on my feet. . Maybe he wanted to clean my shoes?

I must be doing something wrong. It's less "shopping, shopping, shopping" and more "work, eat, sleep, repeat".

And once again you register 11/10 on the pity-o-meter. It must really suck to be you living somewhere you hate and not have the balls to move away and be happy in life.

Its not hate. To look at these frenetic shoppers is a bit sad. Its like an addiction.

What's a "frenetic shopper"?

The closest I can come up with are those people camped outside department stores in the US the night before Black Friday.

You don't really see that anywhere else, although perhaps that shopping culture is creeping into Europe.
