Re: Switzerlanded or Stupid?

OK. But in all fairness Switzerland has a long way to go before it reaches this level of absurdity: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/count-dankula-nazi-pug-salutes-mark-meechan-fine-sentenced-a8317751.html

It looks like the British courts have been infected by an Alice In Wonderland sense of anthropomorphism. Who knows where this will end ? Maybe we will soon see a parrot in the dock suspected of uttering the phrase Sieg heil or making some other non- politically correct statement.

I get the feeling that if they're using it as a greeting in public they're doing so to get a giggle out of it, saying something they know can get the publics attention with but can explain away as a bit of innocent phrasing.
I think Ato's post went a bit unnoticed, and I feel it's spot-on: they must have done it knowingly (provided it's true that the phrase is never used as a greeting) for lulz, and got fine over it. Straight-forward, simple and reasonable. One would have had to have been there to see it all in context.

It wasn't just the salut that was offensive, this would have passed with little problem, but the commande given to the dog to get him to make the salut was a little more serious....

"'gas the Jews' over and over again as a command to a dog, which then reacts, he told the defendant."

Which is in a similar vein to those idiots that lark about saying "bomb" at airport security then get all uppity when they find themselves in a side room, with their passports confiscated.

Possible. Nonetheless I fail to see how this can be more inappropriate than hanging a swastika flag in Zurich's main station with clear reference to Nazi Germany (1933: Germany, 1948: South Africa, 2018: Switzerland), implying that the then-upcoming federal vote would get the country on a nazist track if it got accepted. If the latter is Ok the former has to be as well.

Re: Switzerlanded or Stupid?

Neither is. I don't think anyone here is saying either is.
