Arriving soon in Sion

Hi everyone.

My name in Enrico, I'm an italian engineering student. I'll be soon at EPFL Sion to develop my master thesis.

I would really appreciate if you could give me some information / tips about Sion. How is living there ? Are there also opportunities to have fun / going out in the evening or is it just a small city lifestyle ?

Thank you in advance.

Enrico Pittis

Re: Arriving soon in Sion

Welcome, Enrico, to the Forum and to Switzerland. We have a ski chalet in Chatel and Sion is not too far from us. We go there from time to time to visit the Christmas market, the second-hand (brocante) magasins (which are really good in Sion), and to bring guests who want to see the chateau and the fortress.

It is very much a small village lifestyle, but there is a main plaza and some shopping and some bars and restaurants.

I think you will be comfortable once you meet some people from your school and find out where they go at night to have a few drinks.

Bonne chance!

Re: Arriving soon in Sion

Thank you very much for your answer.

At first, when I discovered the location was Sion, I was a bit surprised because I thought I would have studied in Lusanne. But in any case I really love mountain places, they are relaxing and I really hope it's going to be a great experience.

Have a nice evening.

Enrico Pittis.

Hi Enrico,

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know about Sion, but in Lausanne there are many Italian speaking students, mainly from Ticino and they always have something going on. If you feel too alone in Sion, you can check out there.

Welcome, yes it is a lovely small town - and there is a

but try and get stuck in and make local friends.

If you love mountains, Sion is great- with so many ski/hiking/mountain biking, etc, resorts on either side- quick access to the 4Valleys region- and several spas nearby, like Saillon and Ovronnaz nearby, and Lavey, Loèche and Lavey a tad further. Enjoy.
