Housing and commute to Aubonne

Hello, I'm starting a job in Aubonne. I am married with three kids. I'm from New York and will be relocating for my new job. Where do people suggest I look for housing for my family? Our requirement would be to be within walking distance to schools and grocery stores, as we plan not to lease a car.

Lastly, what suggestions do people have for commuting to/from work? Of course, it depends on where I end up living, but are their monthly/yearly passes for buses/trains available?

Thank you!

homegate.ch immoscout.ch and many others. I presume you will be renting - try to get your employer to help you securing a temporary place before you arrive, getting a rental from abroad may be difficult.

In the Vaud canton there is the Mobilis https://www.mobilis-vaud.ch/ fare system where you can travel with one ticket on all trains and buses based on a zone fare system. See their tariffs for bi-weekly, monthy and annual passes. The whole area is very well served with this system, most people commute by bus and/or train

Re: Housing and commute to Aubonne

Aubonne is a nice... if you like your quaint European hilltop towns. You can live in town and have all the shops a short walk away, we're talking the local butcher, baker etc. There's a corridor south with offices and the likes of pharma company Merck leading down to the big Littoral Center shopping mall with its Coop Hypermarket and nearby Ikea and the Geneva -Lausanne rail line, there's a regular bus service along this route or you could get a bicycle.

Like dandi says you'll see options online for housing, just remember that at any one time only a tiny percentage of the region's housing is available to rent or buy so it can be hard to get a place, hopefully your employer can help here with the relocation.

Re: Housing and commute to Aubonne

Hi
I am also relocating to Lausanne . I am looking for a quaint more affordable village with transport on the edge of cycling and walking trails, close enough to towns such as Nyon or Morges or even Lausanne.
Arriving Dec 2020 to have a look see. My daughter works as a doctor at CHUV and lives in Lausanne . She sometimes needs me to help her with basic daily support so dont want to be too far away. Will be getting a small car as well as using local transport . I am an older (60 ) Australian , very active and looking for a place where I can find a community .
Would really appreciate any advice possible
Thank you
