Re: Switzerland reported as one of the worst countries to make friends

I think there are exceptions to this. Swiss whose native language is Italian for example seem to be friendlier and easier to get on with.
Swiss who have spent significant time (lived) abroad also. Even more so if they have lived in English speaking countries such as the UK and Ireland.

Opinion based on experience as both my best Swiss friends are/were native speakers of Italian and both lived in the British Isles for several years before returning home.

Well it's just that the Swiss when they get to a certain age have arranged their friends circle and they don't let anyone else in . They are pretty quirky the Swiss!

Yes. According to the polls EF has gone down to 0.1% approval rating

Its not that the Swiss are unfriendly. They just build a big wall around themselves. Yes-a bit like the Trump wall.

A better title would have been: northern Europe the worst region to make friends.

I don't perceive it like that but that might be because I'm from this region.

Many such useless surveys put Switzerland at or near the top of the quality-of-life league. Which I completely get, as for me quality of life is when people don't bother you.

I’ve marveled on many occasions at the seeming fascination for residential fencing. Considering the lack of crime, “isolation fetish” is another possible takeaway.

Re: Switzerland reported as one of the worst countries to make friends

I call BS. Myths about Swiss unfriendliness largely unfounded.

Act entitled, with the expectation that the local folk need to adapt to your language (for example) will result in pretty much the same wherever you are.

Be courteous, integrate and don't question local rules, traditions and culture and you will be welcomed with open arms.

My experience...
