Why would anybody want to do this, sounds depresing
Well it could be a fun night until you wake up with a knobbly visitor having broken in through the back door, then, depending on your persuasion, could turn in to a fantastic night.

But joining a fighting club or the likes would be a great way to meet a few people. Have you joined any clubs since you've been here, and is this your first move away from home?

I know for a fact that guys don't get such invitations out of the blue from complete strangers.
Oh, that happens to me all the time; women throw themselves at me via PM. I think it's because they picture me as any combination of fat, old, ugly, underage, married, gay, transsexual, and they see me as a challenge.

IRL, I'm actually only four or five of those things.

It is creepy and desperate. I could be any combination of fat, old, ugly, underage, married, lesbian, transsexual, and you don't care, you just see "Miss" in the name and your dick gets hard and you send me a message saying "hey welcome, how about we meet up for a drink, i'm a nice guy". I know for a fact that guys don't get such invitations out of the blue from complete strangers. So you're not a nice guy, you're just excited that maybe you're going to get a chance to talk to someone with a vagina.
OK... make your self comfortable and take a deep breath.. lets start by exploring your relationship with your father.

Re: Do you enjoy Switzerland?

Where do you originally come from? Try finding some mates from there and you will feel more at home. I did that at first, and now have mostly a mix of international and Swiss friends. Initially, it can really help and will make you feel more familiar with your surroundings.

I see that you are in Zug, this isn't the most exciting place in CH. Are you tied to your current residence? I would consider a move to Zurich as there is far more action and exciting things going on if that is what you are wanting. If you are working in Zug, Zurich is an easy commute.

Also, out of Basel, there are many Easyjet flights that can take you to a variety of interesting places to see. Switzerland is really in the center of everything!

One month is very soon, and the winters can be long, dreary and punishing. Hang in there...there aren't too many things better than a Swiss summer. All the best.

I see you're a British software engineer in Zug. I can understand the rage. And the dislike of sunlight. Switzerland is great for hiking, btw.

I take it you're not really sure about underage, gay and transexual.

Re: Do you enjoy Switzerland?

Agree, it's not the best time to start off in Switzerland. I moved here in a December from a warmer country where there's a lot going on all year. Also, I started off with the mindset that I'd only be here two years so I didn't need to learn the language or make new friends.

Well, turns out you can't get a lot out of Switzerland if you don't make friends and don't know the language at all Enrolling in language classes and joining a ladies expat group in my local area made the difference for me (I went once, met one good friend who introduced me to other new friends). Suddenly, all that vague information about how things work in the country (things as simple as using the SBB, how to use Coop points, how to find out what's going on) started making sense just by talking to friends who went through the same 'not getting it' phase. AND I learned about parts of Switzerland I'd never thought about going to.

I say, give it a few more months. What do you like doing, what have you done so far? What are you interested in?

Well, only four or five of those things. But I have plenty of other, ahem, qualities that weren't on that list.

Re: Do you enjoy Switzerland?

I am also a software engineer, have been 10 years here and in my experience everything started well first couple of years (when I was at university and had a lot of social contact every day, a lot of things going on) and then all euphoria declined to 0 afterwards at work, because outside your working environment full of old and married, there is extremely hard to find like-minded or friendly people, and indeed keeping in contact with people from your country here helps a lot. Ironically this country is exactly the lesson to learn "money don't buy happiness". The language barrier called Swiss German and you will never find real friends, what other people consider as "swiss friends" are just them being polite, it does take a while to realize how everything functions here and you will not be happy with the conclusion of being just a foreigner your whole life. Nevertheless it is true that in summer it gets much much better, you just have to wait until then and decide if you like it, swimming in lakes, hiking, flowers everywhere, and life in general gets more positive.
