Have to admit that the advice and fun on this forum got me through the worst patches here in Switzerland. Laughter is the best medicine

I do enjoy these threads popping up from time to time, it only underscores how narrowly many see the world thinking one place needs to be exactly like what they were accustomed to elsewhere - the utter lack of understanding that the world outside their bubble might indeed be different much less the inability to adapt

I say, welcome to the real world
Oh.... I see... you're better than me! Wow! Tell us more about that.

MissD, you made a lot of us wonder what did we do so wrong here.....and of course who sent you all those creepy invites.
It's okay, don't be upset, I like you.

Can understand the bit about "neighbourhood", but why would you find sunlight depressing?

It's a horrible time of month to arrive in Switzerland. In Zurich there's more fog than clouds, so you know that just above there is sunshine, which you will never reach without a day-pass.

Understand the bit about cloud. Hey just came back from time in the Arctic, and the lack of daylight this time of year is atmospheric and beautiful. A completely different light and people to the grey here in Zurich. If I had the money (which I don't) would count that as a place to retire.
Cause sunlight carries with it societal pressure to go out and 'do something enjoyable in the sun'. It's like Christmas, there are rituals you are meant to do which are annoying. It's a relief when it's over.

Yeah what is it about this forum? I've seen my fair share of internet dickheads, as I've been on political forums as well as bodybuilding forums.. but this forum has more per capita dickheads than I've ever seen anywhere.

Dunno if it's the "expat" part or the "swiss" part which attracts the dickheads.

Well it could be a fun night until you wake up with a knobbly visitor having broken in through the back door, then, depending on your persuasion, could turn in to a fantastic night.

But joining a fighting club or the likes would be a great way to meet a few people. Have you joined any clubs since you've been here, and is this your first move away from home?
Haven't looked at any clubs yet. No, I've moved so much I don't know where home is. I have lived in 4 countries on 3 continents..

It has taken 9 years and counting for people to stop asking "So when are you moving back home?"
I've been here since 1990. When I visit Canada people still ask when I'm coming home.

Newbie.

Meanwhile, why do Canadians insist on using checks, which cost a fortune to deposit here?

(OK, Americans are no better)

Haven't you lot heard of EFT?

Do they?

Bank transfers from the US are expensive, possibly the same in Canada?

CDN 50 I think, but cashing checks is no better.

Why can't it be CHF 0.40 like here to EU?
