I believe that the old name contained part of his real name.
I bet hardly anyone knew that before - and now they do!

But in Yorkshire it has a much more innocent meaning "I'm dead chuffed" meaning I'm very happy. And over here on EF it's also been used as a slang word for the local currency "I've just been Switzerlanded, I had my hair cut and it cost me 50 chuffs!"

Re: Change of user name

I guess he had some bad luck with crypto-currencies or something similar, leaving only the latter part of his user name still appropriate.

I also noticed from my reputations received list that Miss Marples has availed herself of the new "right to be forgotten" where she is now only N/A.

Indeed. And that page doesn't even list all of the real meanings and uses.

I know that, being as I am from Yorkshire myself as is the poster in question, but I’m pretty sure he would also know all the alternative meanings so it does seem to be a rather bizarre choice.

Seems changing the name has also reset his "ignore" status. Perhaps he had finally reached 100% ignore and got fed up with talking to himself.

Re: Change of user name

Quite honestly, if I was after a fresh start, I'd just log out and start again with a new handle. My anonymity wouldn't last ten posts, but it would be enough to throw off curious newcomers.

Quite a few prominent members have done this over the years, so it's clearly (if somewhat grudgingly) tolerated.

But I don't need a fresh start. I'm happy to own my eleven years of twattery and bilge.

Looking at google he seemed a much nicer person in 2005 when he arrived in ZH. Amusingly he has left some reviews on some sites that could be his reason for wanting to lose the handle, especially if he now has a serious chick.

With respect, I think that's a little judgmental. Many perfectly decent people struggle with context and subtext, especially through such an impersonal medium as an internet forum. I think the poster in question overcomes his challenges remarkably well and has, as a result, become one of the best-loved and most-respected members of EF.

Re: Change of user name

Wow, thanks for the laugh guys, I sometimes forget how seriously other people take their and others e-lives. After so long I just fancied a name change and the forum security breach thing was the perfect time and excuse to do it while Editor Bob was briefly responding to mails etc... it's that simple. Plus, as a Yorkie I just genuinely love the word Chuff for the reasons Grumpy posted (and that maybe only a fellow Yorkshireman can understand).

Your post is somewhat ironic, considering you appear to have the empathy levels of a particularly dense rock and the intelligence to match.

I have zero reason to hide my online presence, a username change does not change any rep or posts (as DB rightly pointed out it's a crappy way to hide anything vs simply creating a new account) and the fact you are googling me and coming to these bizzarre conclusions speaks volumes about your own horrendously petty character. But then again, we all knew that anyway considering you insist on embarrassing yourself in every Brexit-related thread you can find.
