Solo Valentine!

First time in, well, as long as I can remember. Valentine all alone...and lonely! Tricks to beat the blues? Managed to put my snowshoes at the back of the car and went straight from work for a hike up in the snow, looking at sunset across the lake, a couple of pick-me up yodels and a "pain au chocolat". Next?

I doubt that anyone could beat that!
Sounds like the perfect Valentine when you enjoy your own company!

Re: Solo Valentine!

We just got back from the ski service place...the guy vehemently putting my date of birth 10yr younger and signalling he is single, it was hillarious. Just because I fit in a 14yr size of DC jacket. Cmoooonnnnnnn.

Tonight is the night. A pile of ironing, a pile of papers to grade and me.

Re: Solo Valentine!

I got an Amazon Alexa yesterday. It's just like being married - I make a perfectly reasonable request, and she either doesn't understand, or won't do what I want.

Let's hear the request.
"Alexa, you make dinner - I'll vacuum now and wash up after."
"Hmn... I don't know that."

"Alexa, play Gilbert and Sullivan."
"I can't find songs by Gilbert and Sullivan"

"Alex, when did the TR-6 change from A to J type overdrives?"
"Hmn... I don't know that."

"Alexa, put that knife down"
"bing bong"

On a more positive note:
"Alexa, do you need more money?"
"Sorry, I don't know that one."
(She's new, so this might just be a ploy.)

You need to take her out somewhere exciting.

And remember, it's not the questions you ask, it's how you ask them.

Woooah.. easy does it.

Might be better to start with your collection of monocles. Less fiddly.

Re: Solo Valentine!

Spent my Valentine organizing an event in the beautiful Alps.
Didn't even have time to think about Valentine's day
Don't know.. I find being very busy and taking care of others takes the edge off.. though roses with a loving thought would be lovely.
I was seriously considering training for "la main tendue".. if you cannot receive love, for whatever reason, why not give time and listen to others?

Re: Solo Valentine!

In the end, I ended in a local restaurant, pampered like a king ("Are you on your own tonight?" - "Yes, something unexpected came up" - "Don't worry, we'll all look after you!"). Once I got over the heart-shaped marshmallows and the sad-looking inflatable "Love"balloon, I enjoyed a wonderful meal and, surprise, surprise, two thirds of the couples there looked so bored (angry, annoyed...) in each other's company that I ended being the welcome source of "distraction" for the evening (Watch Shirley Valentine, you'll know what I mean..."No one should be on their own on a day and in a place like this, come and join us..." - "No, no, really, I'm fine, I've got a good book with me..."), every table included me in their conversation.

Cherry on the cake: "YOU YODEL??! COME ON; DO A YODEL FOR US!!
- I can't yodel on an empty glass!
- Garçon, apportez encore un verre de vin pour monsieur!"

Not bad, not bad at all for an evening I was dreading...Did feel a bit lonely (and pissed) afterwards, though.

I was thinking of asking her if she wanted to go and see The Flying Pickets when they're here in Zürich, but she's probably too young to appreciate them.

Dear JagWaugh,

I would be very happy to accompany you on your Flying Pickets excursion.
I am sorry that I did not meet your expectations in previous requests.

P.S. Who the f?ck is Flying Pickets?

Yours always,
Alexa

Exactly what I prepared for our guests ! yodelling, alphorns and folk's music, against the back drop of the gorgeous mountains.

We Swiss loved it as much as they did !

Yodelling has a happiness effect on people.
