Old Music CDs

I've spent the last three days copying all of our music CDs onto to my computer. I now have a couple of boxes of tunes, that we no longer need.

I am sitting here, covered in dust, wondering what I can do with this trove.

I'm certain I can't sell them singly or in bulk,
I'm certain I can't give them away, well maybe one or two to a friend,
I don't want to throw them into the paid-for rubbish bags and leave them for collection.
They are mostly plastic (???) and cardboard. I really don't want to dismantle them.

Any other possibilities?

Keep 'em in a box in the cellar for when / if your hard drive goes ping. It happens.

Re: Old Music CDs

Already backed up to an external drive, to Backblaze, to the cloud and mirrored onto my wife's PC (I've lost data before, never again)

But thanks for the suggestion. I am really trying to get rid of a lot of junk around here ...

Is there a Swiss version of Music Magpie? Or, indeed, can you use it from CH? It's less of a PITA now you can scan the barcodes.

Re: Old Music CDs

Don't know about your area, but here in Zurich is

https://www.facebook.com/Katalog-Rec...2866115399830/

Have existed since many years, and seem to do a roaring trade.
Not sure if they do CD as well as vinyl, but if you've anything worth not just discarding, might be an address to look into.

I'm not quite sure how to dispose of CDs into the recycling - I know it's not the normal small metal container - it's in the same category as batteries.
If you also can't find it online then I'd call the local Disposal Company.

Send them to me, I'll pay the P&P.

I have all of mine ripped to FLAC on to multiple drives, currently up to over 1TB of music (likewise, DVDs are ripped to MKV).

Re: Old Music CDs

After a search, just learnt that the Migros will take-back CDs for re-cycling, but you'll need to separate the covers from the CD:

Re: Old Music CDs

We got rid of our CD collection in three batches.

One batch we put on the sidewalk. All but 20 CD were taken.
Another batch we put on tutti together with CD racks and an old CD player and sold them for a smallish amount.
The last batch of a selected few CDs we sold to a freind of a friend.

To get an idea have a look on tutti and such. There are quite a few people who try to get rid of their collection.

Re: Old Music CDs

Bring them to the dechetterie and leave them on the table or placed next to the big bins. Quite certain someone will take them.

Thats where I've accumulated a lot of my electronic media, books, etc.

Salvation Army or Bric-a-brac in Nyon will also take them.
