What would you do in situation like this?

This happened on the parking lot of a supermarket in France, near Swiss border. I came back to the parking with a trolley, opened the trunk and starting loading things in. At the same time the guy on the opposite side of the isle started pulling out. Apparently the isle was not wide enough for him to turn comfortably, and my trolley made it 1/2 meter narrower. He rolled the window down and yelled something apparently asking me to move on. My French is limited so I did not exactly understand what he said, but it was pretty unfriendly. I did my best to explain with a gesture and a smile that I need just one more second and will be gone. Apparently he did not want to wait and just backed off right into my trolley, pressing the trolley against my car, scratching my car as well as his own. I was lucky not to get hurt. After that he just drove off. I was stunned - how many times in my life did I drive from a supermarket parking? Never a problem. I always waited when necessary, and other people waited for me. Also the guy did not look dangerous - older couple, battered Citroën minivan. The guy looked like a typical chubby retired car factory worker, his accent seemed Spanish or Latin-american. WTF? What is in those people's heads? Why are they so aggressive? What would you do in a situation like this?
PS: surroundings of Mullhouse just across the border from Basel is not a nice place, full of aggressive white trash. It's not the first time I face problems there, but for the first time it was dangerous.

Unless you have his licence plate and maybe a witness or two, there's not much more you can do other than claim it as parking damage on your insurance.

Some gobshite knocked our wing mirror off in a car park and drove off and we just got the insurance to sort it out.

I'd post about it on a forum on a Friday afternoon and add some unnecessarily racist details just to see what reaction I got.

That's what I'd do.

That's par for the course in France. Have you not seen your average French car? There's a reason they only drive buckets of shit around.

although calling whites trash too can balance it out? Obviously you're not racist if you insult all races at the same time? ;)

Yes, I figured he didn't mind adding a scratch to his car. But there was a serious risk of hurting me. It's amazing he didn't care about this at all. He must have had a shit job for 40 years at that car factory, I can't imagine what else can you make you that aggressive at the age of 60.

Have you been to the french riviera? a lot of french reg cars that are not buckets of shite.

I think it's more common in Paris that mentality but it's changing. People are getting more snobby with cars in France.

I've been all over France, and it's still true for the majority of the country. They have a culture where they'd rather drive a clapped out banger and have good food and wine on the table. This is actually something I begrudgingly respect.

When I was down with my reasonable Swiss car on the French Riviera, some North Africans smashed into it and stole the nappy bag of my eldest.

I do not know what I would have done. But one of my milder reactions would have to walk silently to the passenger side (of my car) open the glove box and pull out the mighty .45 Winchester Magnum. A few well aimed shot in the right direction should have done the job. If not there would still be a a good ol' German Panzerfaust where normally the spare wheel would be.

Sure, there might be some causalities, but as long as the frog eaters are not waving white flags it is all fair game. The occasional cross boarder shopper might be affected as well, but those scum deserved it. They shall shop in the land of chocolate, glaciers, and cheese, the one and only free and democratic Switzerland, the Eidgenossenschaft. Killing our economy, those cheapskate bastards.

Where was I? Right, if the bugger were still alive I would throw in the remaining groceries in the trunk and backseat where the baby sleeps and start roaring the engine. GF has to wait but now we will see who will be first up on the Great Ballon and whose car catches fire first when it crashes into a fir tree.

After that, pick up GF at car park, pickup the leek and the sole apple which did not make into the trunk and than for a nice dinner at the Trés Rois in Basel. En Guete und äs schöns Wucheend.

Effing idiot with his shopping trolley. Good, smashing into it is also an option.

Dirty or clean?

20 years or so ago (near Lake Garda), we had someone break into the car and steal the kid's homework.

They totally missed the game-boys, etc. :p

Sorry that happened to you, can happen anywhere though.

In France there is also the "don't show your wealth" mentality that is dying out as the new generations who grew up on social media are getting more into flaunting.

New cars are more of a thing than they used to be. Heard a lot of boring stats with someone in the biz over dinner
