Re: Would *you* pass the Gymi entry test? Isn't that why we're all here? The Swiss set the standards so high that Remo and Tina end up as a Plasterer or a Florist, and then johnny foreigner - who did worse than Remo and Tina at school - can come to Switzerland with their Micky Mouse degree and become a Banker or IT consultant? |

Re: Would *you* pass the Gymi entry test? Remo and Tina, Florists sounds like a Swiss sit com. |

Re: Would *you* pass the Gymi entry test? I’d pass the math. Not a chance with the German though. |

I’d like to think I’d pass in French but we don’t have the test here anyway and I think my German would probably be good enough for the level they’d require here. Quote:

Re: Would *you* pass the Gymi entry test? I'm with you. Maths ok, German essay v v tricky. Is the long text part of a comprehension style test? Is the solutions doc an answer paper? |

I think I wouldn't enjoy the Math part, but our gymnase entrance exams were the same. We took them at 14. |

Re: Would *you* pass the Gymi entry test? My daughter did the Matura last year. I was surprised at how much of the math, physics, chemistry, and most surprisingly - history I would still remember. |

Where are the grammar nazzies when you need them.. |
Re: Would *you* pass the Gymi entry test? The Gymi tests in Zurich test above the level taught for the 'regular' 6th grade - so without extra practice or training of some sort, it's almost impossible to get in. I have a friend whose daughter was preparing for the Gymi test a while back, and he took it to a uni in northern Germany to share with some of the students he knew there - none of them could pass the test, and they were German natives ... |

Apostrophes are never used for plurals. Possession and ommision (contractions) only. So, Tina's exam. The only time you use an apostrophe after an s is when the word ends with an s. Carlos' exam. Or Carlos's. Either is fine. Edit. Ah. Didn't read back up. You mean the exams of multiple Tinas. I think. But the sentence construction was wrong so it didn't make sense. Not sure collective proper nouns work with the possesive. Happy to be proven wrong. Edit again: just seen Sandgrounder and BM'S posts. Tinas' just doesn't seem right though. |
Re: Would *you* pass the Gymi entry test? Had similar exams when I was 14 back home, I think I deserve to consider that I've done my part....of course I wouldn't feel comfortable taking the language(s) exam(s) here (maybe French, but my grammar is so rusty). Maths I'm ok with. |
