How do i get rid of unwanted furniture?

Hi guys, I hope you can help me with a question. I am having to downsize from my apartment and need to get rid of a very large sofa, footstool and two wardrobes. Any idea how I can do this?
Thank so much for all your help and advise.

Try Caritas or Emmaus.

Or this place as you are in Basel: http://hiob.ch/en/brockenstuben/thriftshop-basel/

Post them on here and on FB local for sale groups for a small price or free, they should be snapped up pretty quickly.

You did well not to have to pay to get rid of mattress at dump, as well as organise the transport.

OP, it is important to give dimensions in description, as well as location for pick up.

You could also put a free advert in local supermarkets where they have the free advertising boards, ask at information / reception for one of their cards, you can stick your advert on it.

Post here on EF, look up on Forum, 'Market Place', two sub sections there, 'Free Stuff', 'Items for Sale'

Re: How do i get rid of unwanted furniture?

Is it still a thing in Basel where one day a year you can put old furniture out and it's taken away for free?

I'm sure that existed about 10 years ago.

In Zürich also. But they are restricting it now because it encourages wasteful consumerism

For barn or stable use, it’s usually not a problem.

With many mattresses the cover can be removed and placed in the washing machine or dry cleaned (a more expensive option).

A lot people worry about bed bugs and that is a reason for not wanting a used mattress.

If the mattress is old or was never used with a matress cover, then it may not be of interest to anyone.

There are plenty of people living on a tight budget and quite prepared to accept something used but in decent condition.

Best to give away a used mattress. For the wardrobes, price depends on age, quality, and if you are prepared to help taking them apart and help with getting them out of the apartment. If there is no lift, or they won't fit in one, that will be a huge deterrent to selling them. Best to give them away.

Places like animal shelters or usually happy to take on mattresses, blankets etc as long as they are in reasonable nick.

Throw them out the window. Just make sure the people you may hit are foreigners.

In Zürich we throw our furniture onto Baselers.
Especially on soccer days.

Re: How do i get rid of unwanted furniture?

Lots of Swiss dump their unwanted things in France, Germany, or Italy (whichever is closest).

You could try that. You'll get full integration marks for acting like a local.
