You might be slightly overestimating your amazon shopping activity and it's impact on the world economy.
That was a funny one. It’s not what I mean though.

What I meant is that different countries and cultures have significant differences when you look at the laws related to drugs, necrophilia, free speech, because why not, it’s more fun to have varieties. Something has to remind people we still have countries.

However, if you look at the laws of trading or taxes, they tend to have more similarities than differences because the countries depend on doing these with each other.

Do you think I will drive for 5 hours to pick up something if I can get it from a Swiss store?

Sigh.
At this point we honestly don't really care what you do.

It’s not a high horse. It’s a spaceship on a lowered flight route. Anyway, you are right. I must be careful.

Not sure, mate. 5 hours from Zurich to get to Germany (and back I hope) means Amanda is the type who drives 60 in 80 zones or goes via Ticino. In both cases she causes traffic jams.

That’s why I have a German address saved on Amazon. It’s a pickup point. Do you think I will drive for 5 hours to pick up something if I can get it from a Swiss store?

Sigh.
I think if you drive for 5 hours for a pick up point in Germany you either should consider getting a pick-up point at the border instead of somewhere above Stuttgart, or buy a TomTom.

Strange, when I still had amazon.de stuff delivered here (long time ago) they deducted the German VAT.
Also all products I'v bought from the UK (not amazon) are UK-VAT free.
I never had OP's problems but maybe they all got lazy. I'll find out when I need to get Savlon again - a Swiss product not available in Switzerland

Now I have amazon stuff delivered to an address in Germany, never bother demanding the VAT back (neither with stuff I buy in the shops there).
Even including their VAT I get it cheaper and poor Germany gets the VAT.
Would be nice to be able to deduct that from taxes as donations but ah well ....
Did you check whether they were sold by Amazon? When it’s sold by Amazon, the German VAT is removed on amazon.de. They add Swiss VAT. They also do the customs. I believe that there was a change though. They used to display the correct price on the product page as soon as I set the Swiss address. (You can change the delivery address on the product page if you have multiple addresses). Now it shows the correct price only on the last page. And this is when the item is sold by Amazon SARL.

For the rest of the cases on the amazon.de, there is also no German VAT on it. It can’t be. Regardless of what some people say here, we have laws.

What happens is the following:

1. You get a bill of the same amount as you would pay in Germany.
2. The bill states 0% VAT.
3. The customs will be done by the delivery company, which is usually DHL. They add Swiss VAT.

In other words, they increase the net price by 19% based on location. In the technical/legal view, there is only Swiss VAT on it. There is no German VAT to refund.

Necrophilia?

What does that have to do with refunding VAT?

If you look at it from an EU IP address, the price of the Suite is 599 EUR. If you look at it from Switzerland, the price is 609 CHF.
Change the country to Japan or Albania and see how you like that experience.

Edit: CHF 609 is also the price which is correct.

This item is 79.9 EUR now on amazon.de.

https://www.amazon.de/Logitech-910-0...oding=UTF8&me=

But if you order it to Switzerland, at the last step, when you pay, it will be about 72 EUR.
Fair and square and the price you expect.

79.9 / 1.19 * 1.077 = ???

Jesus.

I linked a site from the UK because I searched in English, and I picked the first result that was not .com.
But apparently you didn't actually read it.

I'll buy you a nice beer in town if you can show me the law that forbids German stores to charge you German VAT when the shipping is to Switzerland.

But I thought. ((Price/earth rotation speed)*flow of Niagara Falls + distance of moon to earth) * average height of snow at Matterhorn / temperature in Tahiti + Weight of alu tinfoil hat = Proper Swiss price?

1. I never drink alcohol.

2. When I used to drink alcohol, I didn’t drink beer.

3. Do you realize there is no German VAT on the items? The bill says 0% VAT.

The subject of the thread is not "German VAT on items sold to Switzerland"

The subject is "20% price increase". That’s what they do.

On some items sweetie, there is no VAT....food is probably one, childrens clothes is usually exempt, you might even find new brain cells are exempted too

I guess their must be some history with the OP that I'm unaware of as the EF pack seems to be in full cry, but I thought her post was quite useful and interesting about Amazon.de not charging VAT but non-Amazon sellers on Amazon.de charging VAT. I hadn't noticed but I'll pay more attention in future. Thanks.

1. What other people tell you about what they understood of an earlier thread, doesn’t have to affect your interest in what I talk about.

2. You can confirm what I state. All you need is an Amazon account, a German address, and a Swiss address. For German address, you can choose a pickup point from the list.

3. There is no German VAT on it. When I contacted Amazon, I thought it was. But it’s not what happens. They increase the net price with the VAT. And then they state 0% VAT. It’s an important difference.

I’m not even sure they do it by intention. As I wrote earlier, I can believe that it’s calculated by Amazon, and either the seller has no idea how to set up the price on the interface, or the interface doesn’t help them. I don’t know.
