Call them and ask them to explain. Seems high....maybe they made an error.

Re: Please help! I got a Zollrechnung through FedEx

Hard to tell if you just quote the final sum of the bill and you do not state what it actually is.

How much of the bill is VAT?
How much of the bill is duty and other taxes?
How much of the bill is handling and processing fee from FedEx?

There should be a link and login details on the bill to get the detailed declaration from the Swiss Customs website.

Additionally see this information from Swiss Customs:
https://www.ezv.admin.ch/ezv/en/home...nd-duties.html
and
https://www.ezv.admin.ch/ezv/en/home...omplaints.html

Re: Please help! I got a Zollrechnung through FedEx

The breakdown it says

Vorlageprovision 22
Eust/Import VAT 25.35
Zolle 102.9
CH Ust 7.7% 1.7

So is this justified?

Based on 7.7% MwsT the goods value will be around 350.00 (including delivery cost). But the Zoll (import duty) of 102.90 suggests that the goods had a high import duty rate. Without knowing what the actual goods are, it's impossible to say if it's correct or not.

What the heck is it?
Is there a Tariff No some where?

And again, there should be a link and login details on the bill to get the detailed declaration from the Swiss Customs website.

So they are certainly worth more than the declared alue of Chf 300. and the customs have established a fair value based on what they estimate as the real value.
Difficult to contest...

Re: Please help! I got a Zollrechnung through FedEx

Well, you likely can appeal if you can Prove the value was lower than what they calculated.

In CH 20kg of material is going to cost much more that 300 even the cheap stuff.

Re: Please help! I got a Zollrechnung through FedEx

So it's because of the weight then they charge that 102.9?

Re: Please help! I got a Zollrechnung through FedEx

The tariff duty rates on curtains, HS6303, are quite steep in Switzerland, like a lot of other textile products. Plus, they are a specific duty, I. E. per 100kg, not on value. Thus heavy curtains will cost even more. The specific duty applied depends on the type of fabric, I. E. Cotton, synthetic, etc. and also how its woven. A quick look indicates between 141 and 445 Fr. per 100 kg, although I didn't look them all up. So your bill seems about right, could even be at the lower end.

Re: Please help! I got a Zollrechnung through FedEx

VAT is based on the value, so you can back-calculate what they've valued the goods at.
Duty is based on weight.
www.tares.ch
Select the "import from" country then enter 6303 for curtains and try to find closest match to the goods. Click on the magnifying glass to see the rates. 100 on 20kg seems high to me but maybe it includes other charges.

Value including shipping was estimated as CHF 350 (see grumpygrapefruit)
That is o.k. as the declared Value was CHF 300 (If you give the tax man a range, he will clearly pick the upper limit.)

Without knowing what actual tariff code was applied, what material the curtains are made, where they were made, and from were they were shipped from it is hard to say if the duty is correct.

The exemption limit for a gift is 100 Swiss Francs. There are items which are not exempt.

20 kg is a lot of weight for curtains. Are they room darkening curtains? That material is quite heavy.

You should probably just pay the bill, hang the curtains and send your friend a photo showing how nice they look.
