The latest " craze " in Zürich!

Every Saturday is Climate Demonstration in the inner city ( innerstadt ). What happened to the good old fashioned " shopping spree " on a Saturday afternoon. Or do they (the children and/or the parents ) combine the demo to round off the day? Guess its one method to tire out the children so they are totally bombed out in the evening.

March in the morning, shopping in the afternoon.

Where's the problem?

Families around where I live have not heard of this obviously, is there a leaflet available which I can stick into their mailbox?

My kid told me their school colleague got shauffered to and from such an event in Lausanne by their mom.
Therefore even he sensed the hypocrisy...

WTF are you talking about. Yes, there was a short demo THIS Saturday - fantastic. What's your problem - did it delay you on doing an open-top Porsche spree?

Wackos are wackos, and always will be.

Next time I go to ZH, I will bring a baseball bat. :msnmad:

I'll bring my glove. Do you know of a good park where we can play?

Good, than we can recognise you. Random strangers in Switzerland might be offended when offered a beer.

Well, it wasn't my last trip, since going to the northern most part of Canada on that trip to see the incredible wildlife, we've been to the arctic to see the orca breeding grounds, and this year it's scuba diving in the Maldives to observe the dead, bleached coral due to climate warming since I was last there, as well as its recovery and the marine life.

Haven't had a car since years and don't eat meat since I was 21, and want for my daughter to experience nature while it's still there. I am Worldly-wise enough to know that our trip once in a while is not a big enough footprint when compared to the big picture.

And all I did was post a link that Curley asked for - I've never advocated to be any kind of specialist whatsoever in environmental issues (didn't realise you had my whole biography to hand ;)). Am flattered.

But I do thoroughly believe that awareness of these issues should be brought-up - again and again and again. That is what these demos contribute to, and most of the kids that participate in them will form these issues as a natural part of their mindset in their futures.

Hypocrites.
Quote:

few years ago, environmental group Germanwatch estimated that a single person taking one roundtrip flight from Germany to the Caribbean produces the same amount of damaging emissions as 80 average residents of Tanzania do in an entire year: around four metric tons of CO2.
Quote:

Even a serious environmentalist who eats vegan, heats using solar power and rides a bike to work, but who still take the occassional flight, wouldn't look very green at all.

Just two hypothetical short-haul return flights and one long-haul round-trip in a given year would outweigh otherwise exemplary behavior.

Scuba diving in the Maldives with your daughter to observe dead coral since your last time there... you are a truly worthy environmentalist on a great quest!

Pull the other one!

To be fair, I think you misread her post because that's not really in context.

I follow a page on the internets which is a veritable hotbed of climate change prophets. The other day, they invited people to share their "travel" souvenirs. You couldn't move for fridge magnets, patches and random disposable tourist tat.

So, I asked why we were celebrating travel, you know, given how bad it is for the environment. You'd have thought I'd murdered their kittens and forced them to eat them minced in a pie!

The irony would be funny if it weren't for the drowning polar bears in Patagonia!
