Active Fitness vs Let's go Fitness club?

I am about to sign up for a gym and these two places are the closes ones to my house. I went to these places to learn more but everyone was busy I didn't get to see much, so I want to know from experienced people who preferably have seen both clubs and worked out. What is your intake?

Re: Active Fitness vs Let's go Fitness club?

Hi Oscaar.

I joined Basefit a couple of months ago. I did look online at Active Fit and Discount Fit. I never heard of Let's Go Fitness. Basefit and Discount Fit have approx the same amount of locations (c.35-40). Basefit also bought another chain and made it their own name. Also, Basefit just opened a new 24hr/365days in Wetzikon ZH.

Not only were the locations convenient for me, the price and offers were attractive at Basefit. Free drinks and tanning booth included.

PLUS...a big plus, my assigned trainer worked with me to design the best workout plan for me. He continues to work with me on it, and he and every staff member always take time to help me when I have questions or problems. Although I usually go to the club in Uster, yesterday I was in Zürich and went to a club nearby an appointment. The trainers there were all friendly and helpful, too, which was great because I had never been to that club before.

So I can only tell you about Basefit. I'm very happy with my workout plan and the great personal attention I receive.

I hope you find what you need. Good luck!

If they can't be bothered to show you around and introduce you then maybe that's a sign?

I have no experience of either other than both are big chain gyms. Watch out for contracts that you get stuck in.

My advice for what it's worth.. Rather than choose the nearest.. Choose what you want to achieve and what you need then find the gym that suits and go there.
Fancy machines, big screen TV, free towels, mirrors everywhere, sauna, care about your gym outfit? BigChainGym
Or just good old hard work pays off? CrossFit

It seems to heavily depend on the actual location and management how the franchise is run. Some are good, some are not so good.

Activ fitness has lots of classes, which is what is important to me. It's a bit dated, but it does the job. If you're looking for service, it's probably not your place.

I go to Let’s go and I’m quite happy with them. They have a lot of gyms in many places, which means I can go over my lunchtime at my workplace too.

A gym with a treadmill and a rowing machine makes me happy.

Every day.

Re: Active Fitness vs Let's go Fitness club?

I have been a member of Activ Fitness in Zurich for over a year and, while basic, it suits my needs as I only use the treadmill, elliptical and weights. Quite a few friends are members of Holmes Place which is far more "posh" but honestly, I don't go to a gym to socialize or use the sauna. In fact, in the past when I did know a lot of members at the gym, I found it distracted me from working out (or maybe I used it as a distraction)!

I have noticed that there are a lot of younger members at the Activ gym in Zurich (maybe because it seems more reasonably priced compared to other gyms - I am not sure). But the location (by Stadelhofen) is very central/convenient for me and the views of the lake are great while using the treadmill/elliptical.

One of my favorite Activ Fitness centers for the view too.

Personally one of the benefits I really like about Activ Fitness is that it's across the whole of Switzerland. ie, I can hit it when in Ticino, Romandie, or Zürich area (interestingly enough, no studios in other areas of the Deutschschweiz) - a great benefit if you actually enjoy hiking and use them as a shower/change place afterwards (the one next to Bellinzona SBB is probably the most convenient one for this, and there is one combined with a huge pool/outdoor lake access in Neuchatel that's also great to use for recreation activites)

Re: Active Fitness vs Let's go Fitness club?

I joined AF because it is 2 minutes walking from home. Actually it is an old Silhouette that was taken over by AF. It is OK, has more equipment than Basefit (went only to try, never joined Basefit). Not too crowded, though becoming more crowded.

When you ask for help with a move they do show but they don't come to people and say you should be doing it differently (that's something you get at Schulthess for example). There's a difference between the guys working there, some are more friendly, some less.

They are not on a more advanced side with the equipment, e.g. compared to Migros.

You can get I think three free entries, so maybe go yourself and try it out. Maybe you can even send an email to enquire more.

I guess the most important thing for you is how things work in the one you intend to go most frequently.

Re: Active Fitness vs Let's go Fitness club?

If you are asking about gyms. Definitely sign up to one in a convenient location, or theres a chance you will go for 1 month and drop out if its a bit of a chore to get to!

I dont know about Lets Go. I was a member of Silhouette for years. Mainly as its always been incredibly convenient with the location to where I have lived. Aktiv bought them out last year or so, and they have made little transformations, nothing massive and nothing sudden, all the changes they have made have been extremely positive for me and the gym has improved a lot. I am very pleased with what they have done and the gym (I am at Forum).
