Getting rid of old books

My wife and I have cleaned our house out and we have around 200 books we need to get rid off. In the UK I’d go to an Oxfam shop or whatever. However, i went to a second hand bookshop here and because most of the books are in English, they weren’t interested.

Does anyone know how we might get rid of these books? We could take them to a tip but it seems a waste. We don’t want to sell the books or any money for them.

We live in Nyon, Vaud. Thanks

You can try the Library in English in Geneva.

Or HIOB if there's a depot near you.

I think the furthest west depot is either Morat or Martigny. Both over an hours drive from Nyon ...

Thanks, I think the English Library is going to be the best bet. I’ll give them a ring and see what they say. Their website suggests they take book donations

Most of the recycling depots around here have an exchange shelf and/or a bin for books with the bin being collected by a charity - if the library does not take them.

They do. Cds and DVDs as well. I took them some a few years ago.

Any branches of Caritas, Renfile, Emmaüs, or the Salvation Army will take them.

They're sold on in their shops and use the profits for their various charity activities.

Caritas is at Rue de la Combe, 9 for example.

Did you try facebook marketplace? Or if you have a friend at the Uni they could post something for you on campus and it will be a great way to get rid of books in bulk!

Re: Getting rid of old books

You can always try donating the books to the University or any other school. Might also be an idea.
