Return of MWSt-Value Added Tax.( VAT)

I went to Konstanz and bought some things from the pharmacie there. They filled out and stamped a form for the return of the VAT that was included in the price. I then took it to the railway station to the customs office and they also stamped it and said I should come back to them after minimum of one day to recover the VAT. Do they pay the money out or does the pharmacie eventually pay the money out? Is it only paid out in Euro or can one get Swiss Franks?

The pharmacie and in EUR. You can ask if they want to swap the amount in CHF but the conversion rate will be lousy.

You also don't really need to wait 1 day to get your money back...

But if the goods to be exported have not actually been exported yet and are still in the EU customs area and never left it, it would be tax fraud.

PS: It is the store which refunds the VAT, and a refund is purely optional, and they can refer you to a third party provider such as Global Blue.
