The Burocratic Swiss

He had to remove his Gelati am See logo. It was too big for the Swiss burocrats.Replaced by some tiny little thing. Not surprising Zurich is reputed to be one of the most boring cities in the world

They'd probably use a spell checker though.

Just looks like he changed his trailer. The signage is just integral to the unit on this model.

BS, fail to comply with the planning laws and that is what you get. His problem, the same rules for everyone. He thought he was above the law, turns out he wasn’t.

You want to support people who break the law, your choice, but be honest about it and don’t dress it up as something it isn’t.

Re: The Burocratic Swiss

The new one looks much better - the people queue properly for that one too.

What evidence do you have that this has anything to do with "Swiss burocrats" or even bureaucrats??

Or the original sign was an utter pain in the arse for him because every time there was a gust of wind he'd have to retrieve it from the lake, and now he's finally upgraded and got a sign which stays put?

Re: The Burocratic Swiss

It's got nothing to do with Swiss bureaucracy, every town and city in the world has regulations about the size of signage. TBH the original one did look much nicer but if it's too big then it needs changing - but actually I would imagine that it's the height of the whole trailer including the sign that's too big. If the city allowed him to keep it they would need to bend the rules for everyone.

No, he was told to remove it (or lower it at least)

You've made a couple of decent posts in the last month or so, but then you come out with more garbage like this. I wonder what goes through your head when you write stuff here. Trust me, most of the time you'd be better keeping it to yourself.

The name of the owner is Daniel Kissling.

Very italian name indeed.

Re: The Burocratic Swiss

Seems a bit jobsworth to me. OK, Zurich city states no signs larger than 30 cm, but according to the owner (whose name doesn't seem very Italian to me, so no racism involved, omtwatsat), he used the large sign for 5 years with no problem whatsoever.

The short version:
Kissling has the gelati stand since 1998, a similar logo like he had until recently had been placed below the counter. Some seven years ago, after one customer mentioned that such a logo would look good on the roof especially if it were larger, he decided to change it to what he had until last year.

Apparently this requires a permit. Commercial ads on public ground can't be taller than 30cm but he got a temporary permit for five years. This permit ran out last recently, didn't get renewed, so he had to change it, and did. It wouldn't surprise me if an additional extension might have enabled Kissling to claim customary practice afterwards.

Apparently the decision got appealed and will be reviewed by the city council. Now, the problem if Kissling gets another exemption is that it creates two kinds of regulation. So either have it taken down for good or change the rules for all.

Re: The Burocratic Swiss

Without some kind of rules you get Malta. Adverts and signs appear everywhere blocking views, pavements, drivers' vision, the lot.

I'm also sure other countries where we don't live have similar regulations and enforcement. Why single out Zurich...?

If they can take it down, but don't act on it then the others also want bigger signs, and before you know it we have a topic from grumpy old man about how Zürich looks like f...ing Las Vegas.
