Landlord may have used silicon spray.

My go to is a some olive oil on kitchen towel. Rub into the hinges. Wipe any residue re-apply as squeaks occur. Usually lasts a year or so. No stains.

Doesn't stain and it is always readily available.

Update: No application seemed to work permanently on this squeaky wood door with the weather being so hot during the day and then cooling down at night. It seemed to be an issue with the wood warping. The tür (door) repairman was only able to fix it after a few experimental attempts. What finally worked was him stripping off a half inch layer of the wood on both sides of the door closest to the hinges. So it wasn't the hinges themselves, but the door.
