Diving in Canton Zürich / Lake Zürich

Greetings!

Few questions for those who are interested/experienced in subject.

1. Can you recomend diving shops in Zürich? (online shops too)
2. Know any spot near the lake that can refill your tanks with air?
3. Know any nice spot for shallow diving (up to 10m)?

Got more questions? Write it down in comment, lets keep this thread going

Re: Diving in Canton Zürich / Lake Zürich

I dive about once a week - if you're a qualified diver looking for a buddy let me know

(I also teach diving, PADI, but am moving house so most of my student gear is in boxes)

Air fills - get yourself signed up to the air-key system, you then fill your tanks like you would at a petrol station (yourself)

Re: Diving in Canton Zürich / Lake Zürich

Hi there, I'm pretty new here and have very little experience with diving (about 15 dives) between 20m and 40m with a French Niveau 1 PE20 which is I believe the equivalent of PADI scuba diver.
I would be interested in meeting fellow diving enthusiasts (Spinal?) to gain experience and have fun in Zürich Lake.
Looking forward to hearing from you all.

If anyone's interested in joining a club with many divers, you should check out the Unterwasser Sportzentrum Zürich.
In the club there are many passionate and experienced divers, including underwater photographers, and they also include other underwater sports like finswimming, apnoe, underwater hockey, and underwater rugby.
While the majority of members are German-speaking, they can all speak English quite well and are keen to recruit underwater sports enthusiasts of all types.
The club also does its own crossing of Lake Zurich each year, about the same time as the public one, but you get to go both directions (with mask, snorkel, and flippers) and there's a barbecue afterwards.
The divers have a weekly dive on Wednesday at Tiefenbrünnen, as well as organising dives in other places at other times (usually organised directly among those interested). Divers from the club also work with the local authorities to dive in the Limmat to remove big rubbish (like shopping trolleys and those annoying app-connected bikes and electric scooters) once or twice a year.

Enjoy!

I will admit never having heard of Niveau 1 PE20, so had to look it up. Seems to match with the PADI Open Water (18m), with the difference (if I understand correctly), that you "need" to dive/be supervised by a divemaster. Again, if I got it right.

I try to dive weekly, or at least every 2 weeks in Zurisee... you're welcome to join whenever you want. When alone, I tend to do kleine or grosse parkplatz.

Do you have any equipment? I can lend you some parts (e.g. cylinders, weights, depending on size maybe a BCD or wetsuit).... but if you plan on diving in winter, you'll need a drysuit...

It is not simple, especially with the french system. Yes you might be right, it seems very similar to the PADI Open Water (18m) but I am not "autonomous".

Unfortunately I left all my equipment in France (one's got to make choices when it comes to move out... ), so I am a naked diver in Zürich for the moment.

I work in the airline industry so I don't have a steady schedule, but in these hectic times it also means a lot of free time.
I would be thrilled to join you if you have equipment for me; and if you don't I would be happy to meet as well just to discuss and meet people from the diving community.

Thanks araqyl and Spinal for the answers, I am glad to see that people dive in this beautiful lake!

Hi Spinal,, where do you dive from around the lake? I have all my gear except and H valve and pony bottle ( if that's required )...I am PADI Rescue and BSAC snorkel Instructor. Looking to do my first dive in the lake after living here 6 years.

If you have no experience in diving in lakes you should go with someone experience. Diving in a lake is not as diving in the sea and if you are open water it may be difficult to go not deeper than 10m.

Saying that
Hello, I haven't dive in Switzerland.
