Geneva activates heatwave plan for elderly and homeless

Just seen this on the bluewin.ch site and wonder if other cities/towns in Switzerland have similar plans.

"The City of Geneva reactivated Tuesday its heat wave plan. Aimed at the elderly and homeless, the device will be in effect until Friday. It had already been triggered during the first episode of hot weather in late June.

The heatwave is activated when the daytime temperature reaches 33 degrees for three days in a row and it does not drop below 20 degrees at night, recalled the City of Geneva. But Meteosuisse has issued a heat wave alert of degree 3, and the cantonal doctor a warning notice for the period from Tuesday to Friday. Temperatures should drop on Saturday.

The heat wave plan allows seniors who have registered on the free number 0800 22 55 11 to be regularly contacted. Local social networks take their news and ensure their well-being, including whether they drink enough. In case of no answer, relatives and neighbors are solicited; otherwise, the municipal police.

The plan also applies to homeless people. Social Service social workers are touring with Emergency Preparedness to offer them water bottles and provide them with advice. The device aims to minimize health risks and mortality related to the heat wave."

Re: Geneva activates heatwave plan for elderly and homeless

Have not heard of such in Zürich, but besides old people without proper cooling who stay at home I don't think the town has a problem. free proper and cold water is everywhere for free during the whole summer anyway (Amazing how much I've come to love those drinking spots), and there are plenty of cooler spots like the malls
