about big mirror-wall installation in a room

Hello everyone

I am organizing/decorating one room and am thinking of add some big mirrors on one side of the wall to feel a bit more space since the room is relatively small. I also plan to use it as a dance room so it’s nice to have big mirrors.
I checked the big mirrors on Ikea website. Unfortunately Ikea does not have super big mirrors (wall size, say 2m x 5m). Does anyone know where to get those big mirrors in Zurich and how much does it cost for one wall roughly (wall size 2m x 5m)? Also, how long will it take to install such wall of mirror?
Thank you so much for your kind info . It will be super helpful.

Have a lovely evening.

I do not know, but can you fit a 2mx5m mirror through your door and into the room?

Jumbo has a Mirror cutting service. If you are not into DIY get in contact with a Glaserei.

A internet search for: spiegelwände glaserei zürich
gives lot of hits.

Oh lol, I thought the same, and was about to reply that it depends on how many walls have to be taken down and rebuild. (but truth be told, I could just bring it into every room of my house without extra works needed.)

And even if so it will still be freakingly costly, those things are very heavy and demand a bunch of people to lift, carry and install.

Just take panels from 2x1mtr and the lines in between can be very thin and it will be much cheaper.

Haha, very good point

I didn't mean the mirror has to be as big as 2m x 5m, but rather want the entire wall is covered with the mirror

Thank you very much aSwissInTheUS

I will check those related info. Hopefully to find something/somebody to help me to do the installation

Thank you EdwinNL very much for the practical suggestion.
Take panels from 2x1m is great idea. I definitely do not want to spend a fortune for the installation

Re: about big mirror-wall installation in a room

I do not know about a supplier for this in Switzerland...

But gym mirrors in proper gyms should be of special safety material in case someone bangs into them.

I looked into this once and in the UK one of the options is you can buy polycarbonate glass mirrors which are (in effect) plastic and therefore do not shatter. These can be simply fixed to the wall using mastic (I think they were supplied pre mounted on mdf backing?).

Your other option is large mirror tiles.

I do a reasonable amount of design and renovations so this is not an unusual request but prices vary greatly as you are not a company. I have not used this company but their prices are similar to my normal (reasonably priced) supplier, you can order online and they also do installation.

https://www.spiegelwerkstatt.ch/

PS There are specific silicons and adhesive tapes for mirrors if you are considering DIY installation, normal ones are acidic and can eat away at the backing.

Hello Ian,

Re: about big mirror-wall installation in a room

Hello RTN,
Many thanks for your professional comment.
I asked a few company about the price including the installation. The price varies dramatically from 1000 CHF to 4000 CHF!!!
I have to say that I am shocked to receive the quotation. I really did not expect it will cost so much! My budget is below 400CHF
Looks like I have to find a smart way(maybe no way!) to install some mirrors on the wall.

RTN, may I ask another question? Besides the acidic tape or glue, how much of the aluminum frame for mirror installation? I rent the room, so apparently I do not want the wall gets destroyed by the mirror installation.
Thank you very much

You might want to consider a Mylar film mirror. I have seen them in action in a dance school.

You can even buy a roll of film and make them yourself.

You can also buy mirror film stickers.

Try contacting www.baselpanto.org They recently installed wall mirrors in their rehearsal space, so they should be able to give you some contact information and an idea of the cost.

Re: about big mirror-wall installation in a room

A relative ordered 3 large mirror panels from Germany for a c. 4.5 meter wall in a fitness room.
The mirrors were delivered with 2 long aluminum profiles. The bottom profile is a shallow trough in which the mirror sits. The top profile is similar but deeper so that, after fixing the profile to the wall with the correct spacing, the mirrors can be fixed by simply pushing them upwards into top profile and then letting them settle into the bottom profile.
With delivery to Switzerland, he paid maybe CHF 1000.-. It could be be D.I.Y. job.

Re: about big mirror-wall installation in a room

Thank you very much.
This is very new for me. I did not know that such film can make a mirror But definitely with such way I can save loads of money and such films should be safer considering I will do lots of movements inside of the room. But I have to see whether I am able to do such Mylar film mirror installation by myself

BUT too many small mirrors are too distractible for me since the room will be used as more or less sports room So I prefer big mirrors, although they are freaking expensive. I am still thinking a way to spend reasonable money to achieve the wall mirror goal

Do you mind to share the company name from which your relative ordered the mirror?
Thank you.
