I'm shocked and gutted by this very unwelcome news. JagWaugh was an apparently inexhaustible source of advice, assistance, wit, and good humour, all freely given, and a great member of the EF community. I will miss him and his pithy observations, dearly.
R.I.P.

Although I never had the opportunity to meet I can see from his posts that he was a very valuable contributor and a great gentleman.
Surely he is a great person to touch so many hearts on EF!
RIP Jagwaugh and EF will surely miss you!

Very shocked and saddened to hear this news.
He was always generous with his time, amusing with his turn of phrase, and knowledgeable about so many things.
Condolences to those that loved him closest, and will miss him most.
Regards
Ian

It’s just hard to believe reading this thread. The guy I never met IRL but last time about a year or two ago, I chatted with him and Curley in the EF’s chat room, he asked me few technical questions and we were exchanging know-how. Cannot recall exactly what it was about but the chap seemed to be very knowledgeable and passionate about DIY and various engineering topics. Such a gentleman and his wit, humor were adding touch to all his posts on the EF. I’m sure that his presence had a very positive impact on every single member on this forum without exception.
You will be profoundly missed and condolences to your family. RIP Jagwaugh!
Absolutely gutted. How old was he?

| | Re: Jagwaugh | Quote: | | | | | I found out about his passing on Sunday when my father mentioned reading the obituary of a former employee of his that he hired many years ago. It is only when I asked more questions because the name rang a bell that I realised that he meant "our" very own JagWaugh. I had the pleasure of meeting him on the occasion of what I believe was the first of a row of basketball games organised by LiB. We both were less on on the sporty side and preferred to sit down for a drink.
It was wonderful to have the opportunity to speak to someone who knew so much about so many things. His unique perspective probably did not pander to everyone but then I prefer people to be honest rather than smooth talking people-pleasers. My father described him as brilliant but often difficult; however, the same can by said for daddy dearest and he has very high standards when it comes to rating brilliance, so he must have been amazing at what he did for a living. Add to that his passion for cars and readiness to give sound advice on this and many other topics, the musical talent and you really have a Renaissance man.
I am glad that someone else has taken the initiative to remember the one of a kind gentleman and I am convinced that it is out of nothing but respect and a genuine sense of loss.
We are once again reminded how incredibly precious and short life is. I hope that his family and friends can draw some small comfort from the fact that his last moments were spent doing something he loved with a dear friend. And yet - while it is never the right time to lose someone, it is so much harder when it is without warning. My deepest condolences go out to them. | | | | |
Kittster - thanks for your update. EF is a special community - unlike any other forum i've come across. Your story - your dad's connection, you sharing and caring, once again illustrates this. take care xo

I shall miss reading him.
Wonderfully eloquent, a true gentleman.
Rufus, Kittster, if perhaps you knew JagWaugh in real life ? maybe you could give a print of this thread to his wife and family so they may receive our condolences and know that he was truly appreciated and esteemed.
Would that be possible?

RIP, JW...
Very sad news...to me, here in the open and also in private conversations, he came across as a very kind person who went out of his way to help anyone who needed his advice on technical matters and not only.. A true gentleman and a very humane person who brought some balance in a world and an environment that is increasingly less so. This place will not be the same. He will be missed..

This is very sad news. As Kittster pointed out, we've managed to lure him out to one of the basketball meets; although he didn't even play ball, he came straight from work and we all ended up chit-chatting for quite a long time in the park.
What a fine, remarkable, intelligent and kind human being he was.
Rest in peace Jagwaugh.

Just got hit by this information.
We spent endless nights laughing and teasing in the chatroom (when it still existed) and he told me things about Shakespear most people probably never heard about.
We've not met irl but we sure "spent a lot of time together".
Every time I will come accross something I've learnt from him, I will remember him by it. And it was so many different things .... from practical dys stuff to English vocabulary and lots in between :-)
RIP, Jag

Yes, much missed. Every time I see a post, anywhere, on this forum or elsewhere, about a Jag, or a username using "Jag", I'm reminded of him. On several occasions I was really glad of his rational, word-clipped, straightforward input. And in topics here, I often think how good it would be to read words from him, again.
