I can't think of one

I would like to say that if anyone believes I have acted inappropriately by posting about the passing of a respected, beloved, EF member, please know that that was never my intention to do so. If I have inadvertently caused distress, I apologise.

However I will not apologise for paying my public respects to a gentleman, a scholar, an obsessive tinkerer, a friend.

I did not use real names or any personal details. I wrote of the man as he presented himself on here. The man many knew likely better than I did.

If it is in the "wrong " place, or deemed to be, by higher ups than me, the "wrong" time, then move it. Take it down. If nothing else, it would make him laugh.

There's nothing wrong with your post. It's not easy to be the bearer of sad news and you handled it thoughtfully and compassionately.

Not exactly complained, but I'm going to own this since I'm the idiot.

I owe RufusB a public apology.

The mod team had been discussing how to share the news when RufusB made her post. In my usual overzealous mod mode, I fired off a PM asking her whether she had family permission and if she knew how the family would like to handle the account.

The message wasn't meant to be accusatory but in re-reading it, it totally came across that way. I acknowledge it. While I didn't threaten to remove the post or ask her to remove it, I was insensitive and rude when all she was trying to do was make a nice tribute.

I like to think I do a pretty good job of handling communications on EF, but sometimes I royally screw up. This is one of those times and I have no problem owning it.

I meant what I said above, there is nothing wrong with the tribute, only with the way I handled my communications.

I apologize to RufusB for being a jerk. I also apologize to JagWaugh (RIP) because the attention should really be on his legacy, not on my stupidity.

I respect that you own your mistakes, few of us ever do. Extra respect for doing it publicly.

some mods should take note on your post.

Re: I can't think of one

3Wishes, that is a very classy response.

As you can see in my reply to the thread, I found out this Sunday but was not sure if it was really him, so made more enquiries. Once I was certain, I was not sure why there had not been a post on the forum and whether if would be appropriate for me to make one. Since the family has shared various things publicly and the other forums he was active on (under the same username) had already posted about it, I felt it would be ok but could not find the words.

So I am thankful that RufusB made the start.

You're being a little too harsh with yourself, you made a mistake, we all do. Yes, you are doing a very good job here so one mistake is not going to have us all up in arms. Take it easy.

His obituary was published in the papers several days ago, so I fail to see what mods needed to discuss or keep secret....
