Re: Private investigators chasing Zurich banker...

I used to work with Iqbal, left five or six months before he did. He seemed like a pretty stand-up guy.

Never personally met Tidjane, but I was shocked when my buddies started sharing this story with me earlier this week. By all accounts he’s a pretty smart guy as well, and he had to have seen how this would end...!

Crazy.

Obviously they've never heard of a Maschendrahtzaun.

This is less about CS and more about neighbors from hell.

I saw one pretty recent article, that mentioned her as working for Morgan Stanley, and an article from when TT was pretty new as CS CEO, that she was a 35-year-old blonde (assuming that the articles are referring to the same woman&#129300. So now maybe a slightly-shy-of-40 blonde working for Morgan Stanley??

Its a bit of both though: The neighbourhood fight just took this turn because Thiam is the boss of Khan and obviously because both are in the position they are in. Even if I felt threatened by my neighbour would I not be able to afford private security to protect me. And my neighbour would most likely not work in a job where he can order some bullies to follow me around...

Anyways: Looks like the CS board is meeting early this week and they have plenty of pressure to resolve this quickly. The Swiss media on the other side keeps on discussion if UBS will still keep Khan. I personally dont see why they shouldnt but thats probably just me.

The irony of it all is that Khan left CS because he wanted a perspective to become CEO. If TT is kicked out, that spot at CS is free but he'll no longer work there.

wow this feud, drama just keeps making the news...UBS seems so boring in comparison and the drama could be lifted out of the pages of EF too, what with neighbour complaints etc

"Personal animosity grew when Mr Khan bought, knocked down and redeveloped the house immediately next to his boss in the Herrliberg area on the north-eastern “gold coast” of Lake Zurich.
The construction work lasted for almost two years, including over some weekends, leading to Mr Thiam making a complaint to Credit Suisse chairman Urs Rohner about his subordinate, said one person familiar with the situation. Mr Khan insisted the property he bought had been in his wife’s family for years and he had done nothing wrong.
After Mr Khan moved into the newly renovated house, which shares a fence with Mr Thiam’s, the CEO hosted a cocktail party in January for colleagues, people from the neighbourhood and some friends. Mr Khan and his wife attended.
At the party, Mr Khan fell out with Mr Thiam’s partner over a dispute about some trees planted on the Thiam property. "

Thats what everyone thought some months ago... the only issue was that his decision to leave was rather sudden and the new job at UBS isnt the sort of career move you describe... it felt much more like he was running away. It wasnt a big secret that he had issues with the CEO even back at the time, but nobody really expected them to be this petty. I personally was naive enough to believe that the two of them could not agree on the direction for their bank!

If the latest news articles are right will the board actually support Thiam and do next to nothing. Would fit into the picture so far...

It's usually better for the subordinate to move on, rather than to fight a fight that's typically unwinnable.

Rohner may be deciding mostly for his own good. Share price is down by 50% under Thiam, booting Thiam would criticize Rohner himself as that was his most important decision, and would probably weaken his own position. And there'd be no pawn left to sacrifice when the next problem hits the fan.

If you know where to ask, bullies may be cheaper to hire than you may think. Just saying.

Sure. So let me be precise: the problem is not the cost of hiring muscle, but the mindset that somebody would do this about something as important as a bunch of thuja trees blocking ones lake view or construction noise.

Fun fact on that last one: I somehow expected the CEO of a bank with a diving stock price to spend enough time in the office that construction noise during normal Swiss work hours could not be a problem for him...

Tbh, it‘s a fact that Zurich is just a construction site during summer, no matter where you live. I‘ve tried many times to make a summer vacation here, but every year is unfortunately the same.

It‘s the only time of year that construction workers can do anything without fighting against cold or wet conditions.

This whole case apparently took a sad and tragic turn for the middle-man between CS and the private investigator company: "Private investigator in 'Khan case' commits suicide"

that is a sad turn of events indeed...perhaps we really don't know the extent to this case
EN news article: https://www.bloomberg.com/

and even more news articles :

"For the Asian billionaires that Credit Suisse is courting with its wealth management prowess, the story does not induce confidence. Imagine the conversation between a private banker and a potential client in Singapore: “Let me get this straight: you want me to give you $500 million to manage quietly, but you can’t even discreetly keep an eye on a guy when he brings his kid to a soccer game in Rapperswil?”

Seems they found a "fall guy"
Quote:
Pierre-Olivier Bouée, the chief operating officer of Credit Suisse (CS), has resigned with immediate effect, the bank said Tuesday.

Bouée admitted during the investigation by a law firm that he had asked Credit Suisse's head of global security to place Iqbal Khan, head of wealth management, under observation in late August after rival bank UBS (UBS) announced Khan would be joining them.

He had ordered the surveillance on Khan "in order to protect the interests of the bank" and had not informed CEO Tidjane Thiam or any other member of the bank's senior leadership, Credit Suisse said in a statement.

This bit. Yeah right, take the blame, resign and there'll be a secret bonus for you, just don't tell anyone!
