ZVV-please don't get up too early!

I hate that blaring announcement over the loud speaker in Zürich trams telling one not to get up too early( bitte nicht zu früh aufstehen ).

I have to work and I have to get up early!!

Maybe if you spent a bit longer in bed you could avoid getting out of the wrong side of it?

And here comes one that hasn't seen a tram from the inside for ..... na, will not reveal my age ....:
Why do they tell you not to get up too early? Before a tram-stop, I guess?

Re: ZVV-please don't get up too early!

I've done hundreds of rides in Zurich trams and never have heard the message and standing in the tram is as normal as sitting in a tram. In what desolated area do you live that standing is something so weird that they even warn against it. (unless it is your imagination...)

Re: ZVV-please don't get up too early!

Unfortunately, Zurich trams have taken to playing a safety warning, from time to time. It tells the passengers to hold on, when they are standing, and, indeed, not to get up out of their seats too soon before disembarking. It's supposed to be an accident-prevention campaign. I'm surprised it hasn't yet caused someone to errupt in spontaneous violence.

In the 13 tram every half hour they play it.Its not so much what they say but more the " ding dong doo " handy like warning that precedes it. Usually in Bahnhofstrasse. Its a bit of a joke considering most of the people are standing anyhow because the tram is packed full.

Have you considered getting a hearing aid? Don't be ashamed

I bought a car about 2 months ago, and yes I have been considering about hearing aid but they would hardly help in my situation where I miss certain frequency ranges and have tinnitus on top of that.

Re: ZVV-please don't get up too early!

Getting up too early causes people to move while the tram is still in motion. This unnecessary movement could cause injuries since people are no longer positioned to offset quick movement from the tram.

Basically, the announcement kinda makes sense.

Re: ZVV-please don't get up too early!

When did they start making these announcements? Are they only on trams?

I've not heard them, but then I don't go into the city all that often. But in the last month I've been in once a week and not heard anything.

I have to plead guilty to getting out of my seat* early. I am using crutches or a cane and so am slower than the normal flow of traffic. If I remained in my seat until the stop there would be a tramful of folks more spry than I am cursing me for blocking the way - and I think a crush of folks jumping over the pokey old lady would be even more a safety hazard.

*That is, when I get a seat, which is less than half the time, on both trains and trams. Standing room only is the usual order of the day. On the bright side: it's easier to wobble off if you are already standing.

Re: ZVV-please don't get up too early!

I think they started a few weeks ago. They are basically short safety announcements, so far I haven't notice the invitation subject of this topic.

I get up early like you do, every time I feel I might have troubles getting off on time by any reason. I must say though that the announcement does make perfect sense, a couple of times I almost fell due to some sudden change of speed. And I cant' blame the driver if a girl runs on the tracks or something like that

I guess you'd be the first one to complain if someone sparked up a ciggie on a tram and told you "I don't need the ZVV to tell me what I should and shouldn't do in the tram". It's all relative, innit?

Standing up too soon and being tipped over in the event of an emergency stop could injure someone, especially a small child, if you fall on them.

The trams and buses and trains are anyhow so full ( usually early morning and midday and evening.-the whole day more or less ) ) that people have to stand anyhow.
