Which English do you speak?

RP English, US English (which one), Irish, Indian English, non-descript International English or the best one of them all:

Re: Which English do you speak?

American & very proper British English.
I went to a British school and was told off by my teachers if I spoke with an American accent.
We learned Britishness to perfection..... from the «u» in colour to the «y» in tyre, right along with growing cress for tea sandwiches and being «artistic» with Balsa wood. It was pure Enid Blyton.
And very happy years indeed.
Now I get told off if I switch to my British accent 🌸

Re: Which English do you speak?

My daughter has her very own brand of English. Hard to describe, imagine broad Lancashire in a German accent.
I can´t even begin to imitate it but it has me every time.
As for me I try to speak received English but I would give myself maybe a three out of ten, (well one out of ten) however at some point in a conversation the north bursts out.

Re: Which English do you speak?

I speak with a Liverpool/Lancashire accent.
Although my family say "I talk posh".

I've got hard vowels and a soft heart.

.
I get the ‘you talk posh’ comment all the time from friends and family in Yorkshire and ‘you talk yorkshire’ from my in-laws in the south.

I think I still have a Yorkshire accent but it is much less pronounced after over 30 years living elsewhere.

Re: Which English do you speak?

God's own English... Yorkshire!

(But the broadness changes depending on who I am with. Due to an upbringing dahn sarf and an English teacher mother. Each accent being received pronunciation...).

Regards

Re: Which English do you speak?

I'm going to say I speak Indian-English so I can be called a racist by certain forum members.

But I suppose the lesser, and so much more modern evil is that I might also get accused of cultural appropriation.

But, in truth, I don't have a regional accent.

Isn’t the way you refer to a bread roll supposed to indicate your origins (in the UK anyway)?

Depends. Most 14-year-olds would be itching to call them baps, just for the lolz, wherever they come from.

I think we used to call them baps but without a trace of ‘fnaarr, missus...’ unless it was crusty; then it would be a ‘cob’.
