You assume there is one. The only one here in Fribourg city closed some years ago so I have no idea where to find one if I needed it.
Hence the reputation of Friboug that they all stink !!

Whether there is a washkey system in place is irrelevant as the machine is out of service.

Having the use of a washing machine is part of the rental contract. Finding a solution to the problem will likely be costly.

I have only seen laundromats (where you do the wash yourself) in Zurich. I know that washing services are less expensive in Germany so that might be a less expensive option than Switzerland.

I really do feel for the OP. When our previous machine broke down and I had to wait 10 days for a service call it was a huge inconvenience.

The name of your landlord is on your rental contract. Is it a private person or an agency? If you are not getting any direct answers from the caretaker, before sending the registered letter as has been suggested, you could try and contact the landlord directly and find out what is going on.
Was just a comment . Wait till its repaired. A little bit of patience is a good thing!
But then for women washing is a bit of a replacement therapy sometimes

One week - half an eternety? Seriously?
To even get an assessment? Definitely. That shouldn't take more than 3 business days, if even that.

The determination they show now will also apply to the remainder of the process. If it were about ordering spare parts the prediction would be reasonably precise, not "oh, uummm, well, maybe Monday, though perhaps Wednesday, but than again it maybe the week after. Not sure, we'll see. And if you keep pushing I'll be busy anyway.".

Exactly. That's why you want to give them some kind of outline without an actual prediction. The sooner that's done the stronger the tenant's position.

Re: Any recourse for broken sole communal washing machine?

Small update to thank those that replied:

- I had reported it immediately as it was my wash day and it died mid-first-load...

- Management company owns it (apparently owner-dude's daughter lives downstairs from me - if SHE can't get them to get their butts in gear, then I have no chance other than pissing them off)

I can't imagine anyone in the building has their own washer as we have no room in the bathrooms and I see everyone's name on the list at different times (thank goodness we don't have set times, and no one has issues with people washing on Sundays)

We washed some stuff in the bathtub and dried it downstairs... hopefully will be fixed this week. I appreciate you all for sympathizing/giving advice.

Have a good week,
Katerina

Wow- how ridiculous. Surely they should have got someone out the same day, and repaired the same day! Or replaced if necessary. Poor you and totally out of order- them and the machine.

It's okay to piss them off.
So keep nagging them.

Re: Any recourse for broken sole communal washing machine?

Thank you for asking! It was finally replaced late on ... that Friday...

A german-speaking friend is going to ask the "housefrau" (sorry can't remember the official name) if there is going to be any compensation (rent deduction or something)... will update if they give us anything!

Take care,
Katerina
