After they remove our now useless oil tank (the one we used for heating oil) which now occupies a 4.5mx2.5m room in the basement, I plan to slowly turn the place into a small gym (I'm thinking just stationary bike, maybe treadmill and mats), but it wil be big enough to also feature a TV, so that we can watch tele while we're at it.
Can I ask how much it cost to remove the tank?

Is the oil tank room's ceiling high enough for a gym? Free weights are the obvious problem but a treadmill on an incline and energetic running may perhaps cause you a head injury?

I ask because ours isn't high enough.

I really don't need PMs about this.

Look, if I'm totally serious in a thread, then I'll back up any statements with a link to a research paper or other material? OK?

Nah, I'm loving this frivolous, happy-go-lucky side to you...

I got the offer from the same company that installed our PV and our Wärmepumpe. It's CHF4.25K.

The ceiling is regular height, it's the same as every other room in the cellar. I'll snap some pics when I get home.

Re: What would you do with a spare room?

I would remove all my husbands junk that is all over the house and place it in there.
Under my bed there is multiple hi fi amps, about 12 old cameras, 3 tape decks and 3 turntables.
When I open my wardrobe doors usually one of his airguns fall out. In most rooms there are books and speakers.

Every spare space , underneath every bed in every draw there is "stuff".

For me I would love a room to use as a office, and fun room with my old records and a tv to escape it all!!

So this is my tank "room" which will soon be a small gym:

It's a bit bigger than it looks in these phone pics.

Perhaps, but no way that it's 4m5 x 2m5!

Nice doorway. Are you a midget?

Re: What would you do with a spare room?

That does look the same height as ours. I guess I'm just too tall.

I suppose, in our case, we could dig down to create a taller room. Anyway, that's long term plans for us.

Have fun with the conversion.

Good idea, also have a former tank room. We had 4 750 liter tanks in there so plenty of space

Ours is an 8000 liter tank ! It's not a particularly big room though.

8000 liters = 2m x 2m x 2m, not a huge amount of space.

A wood stove, definitely must have a wood stove. And not some cheapo internet one but a nice one with aesthetics. An inglenook. And then a pair of comfy armchairs, and a cabinet with a collection of fine malts. No TV or other electronics. A place where deep conversation counts.
I suppose the stronger the drink, the deeper the conversation...but don't stay too close to the wood stove. ;-)
